So the new "class"

Smith
Frazier
Williams (possible red shirt?)
Badocchi
Toppin?

And whom else?

That was Groce's second class, Groce's first year Weber had Orris lined up & Groce passed leaving the class empty.

My concern is big, we really can't afford not to take a big for the 3rd year in a row.

Good call.

Another thing we can look at is if Underwood pushes any guys out right away. Groce waited a year before parting ways with guys that didn't fit (Henry, Shaw, Ibby).

IMO BU will gladly keep everyone on the current team. We already have plenty of open scholarships so keeping as many guys as possible who are familiar with college basketball will help immensely.

But I wonder how different Groce's tenure could have been if he decided to open up those scholarships right away.

Coach is not old at all, and he said this is his dream gig. #Wewillwin

I suspect OSU was a dream gig as well. I'm too lazy to find tape of him saying but that's what you say when you're hired. That said, I think he'll be happy working with Whitman. I don't think he'll be leaving any time soon. Still it's a business. If someone walked in and doubled his salary, he'd be gone.

I for one hope he gets the talent he's looking for. They've got the staff. I think they can put together some wins and have a fun time doing it. I think he'll be happy here.

Frank insinuates quite a bit that Ok St is BUs dream job and the title wants you to think so too. I bet (JMO) he thought OSU was as high as he'd go on the coaching ladder. He probably even believed on his ability to get a job there where UI was literally a dream Job he didn't expect to open

Something tells me his dream job will be Kansas/UNC/Kentucky/Duke if he dominates here. Which is fine with me, I'm just tired of losing.

Put me in the camp that thinks Self only leaves for KU. We're not losing a coach to ANYONE if he builds a dynasty here and we pay him. Syracuse doesn't, Arizona doesn't, Ohio State doesn't ... why should a rejuvenated Illinois??

Yep, the stars just aligned really, really poorly for us there. Ole Roy jumping to the only other job he would take, opening up the only other job Self would take, right as Self was proving he was a star. And even then, had we really been aggressive money-wise there was a chance he would have stayed. Self knew what he was building here. With Underwood, he has no real ties to any school that would be a more attractive job than Illinois. He'll be here as long as he's winning

Way to early in the morning to be playing ball, but the Fire is already up on Phoenix Phamily and Marvin Bagley III 23-6. Horton-Tucker has 9 points and about 8 rbs, Ayo and Jacobs 6 points. Bagley has 2 of their 6. Bagley is considered the number 1 player of 2018 and Alford is sitting court side just like he has for every game out here -- according to a Goodman tweet yesterday. Haven't seen Cal but he's considered a strong KU lean as of now per 247. The Fire bigs look like sticks next to him but he's insisting on taking long 3's instead of dominating inside where he surely would. Can't see this score standing up but .....

MS is creaming a Texas team 42-20 at halftime. Haven't watched any of it so don't know how Finke is doing, but probably pretty good since he's turned out to be the Meanstreets man this year.

Bagley has woken up and realized he can score any time he gets within 10 feet of the basket and it's now Fire 31-28. Horton-Tucker still having himself a game but will be having the rest of the first half on the bench - like yesterday's second game he's charged himself into two fouls early. Still not halftime.
Check it, it is still Fire ahead 31-28 at halftime. Bagley is bigley.

lol. THT keeps driving to the basket and then dishes out and a girl next to the camera keeps screaming, "put it up T, shoot it!!" He just shot her a look since every time he gets to the basket, Bagley and Antwan January, also 6-11 is standing there waiting for him. Fire up 38-30.
MS up over RM Elite (TX) 65-27.
THT just blocked Bagley from behind. Nice play.

Ayo Dosunmu dominates in day two from the Nike EYBL

Recruitment: Butler, Xavier, Creighton, Illinois, Northwestern and Oklahoma State

His day: Despite not playing at 100-percent, Ayo Dosunmu was pretty dominant down the stretch of his first outing on Saturday. He was impossible from keeping away from the basket as he tossed up a 33-spot on the scoreboard, giving his team their first win of the travel season.

Quote (Illinois): “That is my in-state school. It is always good to have a solid relationship with the state from with which you’re from. I want to be able to build a great relationship with them.”

Prediction: The hiring of Brad Underwood at Illinois has set tremors throughout the state that keeping the best within the borders is a must; Dosunmu becomes a member of the Illini in the fall.

Another charge on THT. Run-away train sometimes. Goes to the bench with 4 fouls and gets an earful from Nick. 46-39 Fire.
Meanstreets up 76-49 with a minute to go.

15 point Fire lead down to 5 with THT on the bench. He comes back in and promptly gets tangled up with Marcus Bagley on a steal and gets his 5th. Fire still up 59-52 with 3 minutes to go. Getting sloppy and chippy.
