If Feliz and Ramey want to come do we take them both and abandon hopes of adding a big transfer? Do we save that one scholarship in case Okoro reclassifies?

Lots of CB's for El General.:thumb:

Seems to be the way this is trending. The staff wants another PG and they're not going to be caught holding the bag by going all in on Ramey. It makes a lot of sense, although it isn't the way I would have played it.

Do you prefer the John Groce method?

In terms of roster spots, I would be shocked if we were really keeping Matic Vesel for next year. He’s listed as 6’ 10” 215, but in person he looks more like 6’ 8” 190. Underwood covets guys who are fast, long, and can shoot. Vesel is not fast, not long, and he didn’t attempt a 3 pointer.

I’m sure he’s a great kid and I wish him the bet, but last season he didn’t look like a BIG 10 player. I feel like he has the potential to be a really good Missouri Valley player.

Feliz was the leading scorer (18.9) at the 2015 U19 World Championship. The MVP at that event, none other than Jalen Brunson.

I have trouble seeing Ayo, Trent and Courtney playing at the same time but see them splitting 2 positions 3 ways with the hot hand getting the most mins. That works out to 26 mins each and probably optimum anyway. Need the length of AJ, TJ, and AG especially if Kipper is guarding the 4. May depend on matchups on defense. Taller quicker players certainly help defense and hopefully we will have a zone offense.

Absolutely. Doesn't everyone want to be the bridesmaid?

No. I'm not convinced that we need a two-year PG. I would go all-in on Ramey and go after a fifth year backup PG if you miss. In that scenario, you either land a game-changing player in Ramey, or you have a stop gap backup guy whose scholarship opens for the '19 class.

Look, I'm not trying to tell you I know better than the staff. I don't even know if a backup fifth year PG is out there. If they think Feliz is worth using that scholarship for '19, I trust them.

Incorrect. He has been on unofficials to Illinois more than once in the past.

Edit: I think you said nope to unofficials and then said yes he has been on campus for an unofficial?

Oops thanks. I misread the OP. Yes he’s been on unofficials to UI campus. Only officials to OK ST and TX

I do think Ayo, TF, and Ramey can coexist. Ayo played off the ball at times at MP with Miller and Watson able to handle the ball, and Ramey could be that facilitator that would provide a lot of quality looks for TF and open the floor for Ayo. I think offensively the system would run great with the 3 of them on the floor together. Defensively would have to rely on quickness, ball pressures, and denials to avoid mismatches with lack of size but those are all staples of what BU wants to do and Ramey is tough and plays bigger than 6’0 and Ayo being 6’4 provides some length to cover the wing, just would need to be stronger.

I think there is something to sell to the Ramey’s and Illinois seems like a great fit, but we all know that sometimes the best fit isn’t always the first choice. Here’s to hoping we secure Ramey though

Ramey is listed at 6'3

Brad Underwood & Mike Boynton will meet with talented available guard Courtney Ramey today, per a source.

All in on Ramey, hopefully he gets his commit. IMO we would be better suited with Feliz, but the Ramey commit is the big fish. This is where we find out if we can close the deal. Our past performance lately is a negative, but BU is selling our future.

We have to seal the deal with Ramey before Feliz this weekend. Sure hate to have a Feliz visit/ commit , then have Ramey decide Tuesday he wants us. We would never pull a scholarship offer day before signing , would we?:eek:.

Or does Underwood pull a classic John Groce and get neither....

It is crazy to think anything other than Ramey would shine, thrive, and win with our cast. Problem is do they want to be The Man without sharing too much spotlight?

I can’t imagine Ramey or Okoro wanting to play in the PAC10 over the B1G or SEC.
Eugene is a beautiful campus though.

No information that Ramey considering Oregon, but Okoro visit is interesting. If his age is a factor, maybe he is deciding on reclassify. If that is true, we may have big man we want ready to make a commitment. I'm sure the weather i n Eugene is much better than what we are having now. Nice place for a vacation.

Hope the Painter effect doesn't come into play.;):illinois:
