You need a big post that can stop easy points in the paint, or an athletic guy that can block or alter shots at the rim. We don't have a single one of those right now, and still wouldn't have it with Lewis, Goodwin, or any of the other athletic forwards mentioned. Maybe Black can get there, but we haven't seen that aspect of his game yet.

Exactly. We need legitimate big post players in the worst way. Theo John's on my wishlist for 17'. A couple years in a strength & conditioning program and I think that boy will be an absolute stud.

Yep, the fans who hated Egwu's offense are missing his defense these days. :)

That's only the last 6 seasons, so pretty misleading to talk about "career records" in that category.

I didn't say that those were the career leaders, it was just the only list that I could find. The point I was trying to make was that he was in good company with other foul machines.

Egwu was a foul machine. He holds the B1G career record for the most PF's.

Not sure calling him a foul machine is fair, particularly if you're comparing him to other bigs. Egwu ran around on offense setting picks constantly, and getting a lot of calls for illegal ones, especially in his first few years. On defense he also ran all over switching on picks on the perimeter, drawing many fouls from trying to cover a guard or wing off the dribble. Granted, he wasn't the strongest defender one on one down low, and had to foul there to prevent gimmes, but he did stuff that not many bigs are called on to do. How long would a Hammons, say, stay in a game if asked to do that? And it seems to me the total number of fouls isn't necessarily determinative of "foul machine" status; fouls per minute played would be a better gauge IMO. I'd call Leron a foul machine but not Egwu, but that's just me. In the too lazy to look it up category, I wonder how many games NE fouled out of in his career.

Quick look:

Nnanna Egwu: 379 PF, 3246 minutes played: 0.12 PF/min, 8.56 min/PF; 16 foul outs.
Leron Black: 112 PF, 587 minutes played: 0.19 PF/min, 5.24 min/PF; 1 foul out.

Anyone when Moore plans to commit? Doesn't the team have summer activities?

Well IIRC the last day to sign a LOI is the 18th of May so he's got a little over a week to decide.
Unless he decides to not sign a LOI. Which is possible at this point.

I believe his camp has already said he does not intend to sign a LOI.

4-star PG Charlie Moore told me he will "definitely" take an unofficial visit to Champaign after officials to LSU & SMU. #Illini

Has anyone heard how his visits went and if he's still taking an unofficial to Champaign? If he's visiting again that must mean the Illini are definitely receiving serious consideration from him, right? I don't know what to expect or what the kid is thinking but for now I have hope... not a lot... but a little.

He can commit if he wants and then just show up to where he wants to enroll. He can still sign a financial aid agreement without the binding LOI.

Since Illinois doesn't have a scholarship for Moore at this point, (with the eligibility/return of Thorne, Abrams, Nunn and Tate still unknown), I am under the impression that he can commit, but not sign, with Illinois since the scholarship situation is unresolved.

Am I right in saying that since he is not required to sign a LOI with Illinois, he could commit now with the scholarship/eligibility situation in a mess and still have the option to immediately play elsewhere if by some miracle there's no spot for him on the roster? Or is Illinois going to get screwed and see Moore commit elsewhere because he doesn't want to wait and suffer through the uncertainty?

I hope I'm not over complicating it haha :illinois:
