As far as Illinois is concerned, the last few Xavier's we recruited had the same destiny as the last few Moore's.

The heck with the loss of the Xavier's and Moore's, I'm more concerned about the loss of Johnson.

Look at all the great passes he makes to get his teammates buckets as well. Im assuming his teammates dont always make those shots either(based on the way some of the shots looked). He does it all.

The number one thing this program has missed in the last decade is a bonafide leader. You have to get smart and tough leaders or your are toast... Lucas seems poised, but Goodwin is a winner and a leader.A bulldog.
He might be the most important recruit of the groce era.... And Tillmon....

#illini '18 PG recruit Ayo Dosunmu said tonight: Grew up watching Dee Brown & Deron Williams was special for him. Brown on staff is huge.

Four-star 2017 center Victor Uyaelunmo visited USC on Monday. Said USC, Illinois, Pitt, Tennessee on him most. Maryland showing interest.

I have to imagine this is the last time we'll ever hear about the Dee/Deron years making an impact on a recruitment. What was Ayo, like, 5 during that run?

Denzel Valentine comp?

Valentine's game is different. Goodwin reminds me a little of Marcus Smart, when I saw him play in HS. Same tenacity, physical strength, presence on the court, although back then (when Smart was in HS) I thought Smart was a little more advanced in his combo guard skills, a better player, but similar in style.

He would have been either 5 or 6. But it was such a huge moment for illinois basketball that a 5 or 6 year old who is really into basketball may still hold onto those memories. Plus those guys are still talked about to this day, adding to the legend of them.

My niece was 3 or 4 during that run, and she could name every illini on that team. Now she's not into sports, but can still name 10 of those illini.

Exactly, these in state guys may not necessarily remember them playing but they are legends in the state and you can be certain that they at least know who they are. That can only help. Plus now that Dee is on the staff, the kids can see his passion for illinois and see themselves in that exact same spot he was in as a player, and how much success he has had after college, even if it wasn't the nba.

I want Goodwin so bad that it's actually getting hard to watch him. If he goes elsewhere the heartbreak might be too much.

I have the exact same feeling. If he were to commit I'd take 48 hours off of adulting to celebrate.

If I could choose 1 player to make a big leap, I'd probably pick DJW. He's not point guard material but he could be a pretty darn good point forward. If his shot improves he could be an absolute beast.

Based on how he was improving during the last half of last year, I'd say he is a likely candidate for a quantum leap. Great skill set. lets see what he and the coaches can do.

Want Goodwin so bad. Not only is he great, he lifts his whole team up.

Goodwin will win wherever he goes. You could make an argument this is the most important recruit in the Groce era in terms of having an impactul change on the culture of the program (I would also think Brunson would have made a huge difference for 2+ seasons).
