He never has. To be completely honest, coaches are really having a hard time evaluating how good this kid is going to be at the next level.
We had a couple of kids in my (home) Illinois county who averaged 33+ points and didn't really make much of a dent in Division III.

From watching this kid's highlights, I would not bet that he's Big 10 calibur. Novice talent evaluator that I am, however, I couldn't really tell how successful Zion Williamson was going to be when he played against a local Class A (smallest of 5 classes) opponent here in South Carolina. The competition is just so weak, comparatively. I believe Zion scored 35 points that game, and his Spartanburg Day team won by ~30-40 pts. Roy Williams and Brad Brownell were on hand --- and so they obviously knew, as did Coach K!

This will be a very tough call.

I’ve seen him reported to be 6’5 as well as 6’7. He seems closer to 6’5 to me.

2023 F Javonte Taylor up to #6 in ESPN rankings. Now highest recruit out of Illinois since 2014. Hopefully he likes the what he sees! Plenty of length and versatility between Goode, Podziemski, Melendez, and Taylor ;)

Watching the highlight video i see a white Mark Smith. Physically ahead of his opponents. Won't be the case in college. Never know, could also be the next Sam Dekker
Which Mark Smith, the one who transferred, or the one that was a Very Good player for us.

Javonte is Steve Taylor's (former Simeon star) brother. Originally started at MPHS but when Nick left for WIU, Javonte moved to Mike Irvin's Kenwood HS.

So, with him being an Irvin kid and us declining THT to stay in the Irvin camp, it’s time to pay the piper, right?

If you are talking about the younger Mark Smith, which I suspect you are, he has turned out to be a decent college player. He's averaging 10.6 ppg this season. Really, he's got the tools to be a lot better if he'd actually work for it. Instead he has treadmill nightmares.
