Maybe Frankie Hughes is related to Alfredrick Hughes. Back in the day, at Loyola, he wasn't shy about firing away.

No he was not .... I lived by Irving and Ashland in those days, my bro was an athlete at Loyola...between that and friends at DePaul, Marquette and Illinois I was pretty much set to enjoy hoops most nights. Filled my schedule in with Taft, Roosevelt, Lane tech and Gordon home games.

As much as he looks like a good player, not getting him isn't a big loss, imo. He REALLY doesn't fit our needs for next year, especially with the last scholly. He is basically Michael Finke, with probably the same defensive deficiencies. To have any chance of being good next year (which given Groce's circumstances should be all that matters to him), we need to use that scholarship on a very-ready-to-play big with some athleticism and ability to protect the rim. I don't care if he ever scores a point. This obviously means a 5th year guy almost certainly.

Take a step back and look at the long-term prospects we have in the front court. There's not much there. We have a stretch-4 and a yet-unknown 6'7" guy to man the paint for the next 3 years. As much as playing for next year might be in Groce's best interest, it's not in the best interest of the program. Recruiting a warm body who can guard the paint and grab rebounds has been just as big a deficiency as point guard imo. We're seeing the results now.

So Harry Froling announces today. How does this kid not pick SMU?

Would love to get him if possible.

Seems the only thing going against them in this recruitment are the NCAA sanctions. I don't see how that program can be successful losing 9 scholarships over the next 3 seasons.

Does that matter to Froling? Or does he just want to play for a school with family ties and a fanbase that clearly wants him (willing to chant his name during a game)? We'll see. Regardless, this one seems like a very long shot.

IDK- I don't see how Illinois and Colorado got visits in the first place. I'm glad but it would be interesting to see how that process went. I'm no insider but I can imagine coming up with some reasons to go to SMU and Arizona. And not so many to come here or Colorado. Maybe immediate playing time? Arizona has a great campus and weather but maybe some limited playing time with some the young big guys they have. There is no lack of talent on that team and immediate playing time might be tough to come by. SMU seems to be a team in the rise and Larry Brown has plenty of NBA connections, sisters are there, etc. It will be a real upset for SMU to not get him.

2016 PF Harry Froling announces his decision, today. Down to SMU, Arizona, Colorado, & Illinois. I'm hearing SMU and Zona are favourites

Any idea when he's announcing? I'm assuming it'll just be a Twitter announcement?

No clue, his last Tweet says:
Harry Froling ‏@HarryFroling 19h19 hours ago I'll be announcing on the 25th USA time. Stay tuned

So we have... Academics (us?), (Wild)Cat, Buffalo, Mustang. Is that the best emoticon that we can get??

It's currently 3:00am in Australia, so I would guess it won't come any time before 3:00pm CST as that will be his morning.

He picked a weird day, as it's Australia Day (celebrates the founding of Australia, celebrated similarly to 4th of July here).

I believe we are the "I"... Not that that makes you happier about our [lack of] emoji.

Maybe, but that's life and what is likely to happen. There is no "program"; just humans running it. A counter-argument on the long-term can also be made that this "program" needs to win next year. This isn't the NBA; there are no better draft positions for finishing poorly. The more years you lose, the harder recruiting gets.
