Assuming we get Thorne back next season or a 5th year transfer (rebounder/post defender preferably), we will have 6 spots open for the class of '17.

Currently, we have 2 commits, Damonte, a PG/combo and Javon, a wing.

Ideally, we add at least two post players, and a big wing.

The 6th spot can go to best player available. Another PG? Excellent 3 point shooter? Skilled small forward type? A bruiser? Lots of options.

I have not seen Eastern play but he's a big PG. If he can shoot at all he would be an intriguing prospect. He could play alongside TJL or Damonte and provide depth at a KEY position.

Assuming Tilmon and Goodwin commit, who are the Plan A targets for the 5th scholly? WRT the 6th ride, bank it or use it? Don't think Groce is a bank it kind of a guy (FWIW, neither am I). If we do take a 6th, I expect Groce to be very, very picky.

Uh, I would add that past results do not guarantee future performance, but based on our recent history of injuries, get as many bodies in house and on the bench as JG can. 6th, 7th, whatever!

BRUNSON? Is this folk lore like Rennie dunked on Shaq?

If you listen to the Tay & J show, there have been some strong insinuations (even recently) that Brunson wanted to come to Illinois, but was swayed away by his family. Whether it's true or not, who knows.

Why wouldn't he make it public if he gave a "silent verbal?" Why would anyone give a silent verbal? It seems if it were me, as soon as my mind was made up, I'd go public and try to bring more talented guys with me.

It actually makes sense in this situation. He could very well be waiting to see what Groce's employment status is. There is a lot of smoke from the media folk covering recruiting that Illinois is currently "leading" for Tillman.

I kinda thought that was the general feeling around here?!?!? Dad pulled the strings. At least that's my memory of what happened.

Yes, but I don't take much of the opinions on here seriously. Some of the people around here make excuses like that for every recruit we miss on. When it comes from the people who do this for a living, I take more stock in it.

He basically told us all on SMSL.

I see nothing positive about discussing silent verbals on a public message board. Seems it can only hurt or be neutral, but never help.

It neither hurts nor helps.

This could be a very exciting time for us. I'm excited. Tilmon would be huge for our program.

I would think that if we do indeed get Tilmon and Goodwin on board with Williams and Pickett, our other offerees would have a lot of extra incentive to sign up.

I'm excited that we could end up with so many downstate kids. We've struck out so often on CPL prospects, and downstate is producing more talent now. Let's get that pipeline going again.

If we could get a pipeline going from Chicago and STL I'd probably go into cardiac arrest. Fingers crossed all these prospects pan out...we deserve it and I'm hungry for wins.

Central Illinois
Central won by 18. Tim can shoot some. He hit a few threes with some coming off of a screen and on a catch shoot during ball rotation. He didn't force anything and was content to pass it if he didn't have a good look. He played with a good motor even when up by double digits late in the 4th quarter. He also got his share of rebounds and had at least 3 blocked shots. He also had a few steals as well. I figured he would have made more free throws, though. He shot maybe 60-70% from the line.

Has he hit the Finke growth spurt yet? IOW, how tall is he now?

Good question. I would say close to 6'5" ish. They list Nick Finke at 6'9" but he didn't look that much taller than Tim when they were standing next to each other.

Damonte tweaks ankle?? makes sense he just committed. I know its not serious, but what a weird terrible year injury wise for the team and our recruits.

Maybe that's what's holding Tilmon back. Wants to get through his season.
