Add Lovie in with that group.....

More of a question with hopes of optimistic responses. Just curious if there are any rumors of this possibility.
....while we're at it. Can't hurt. He can pass on his "excitement" about being part of the Illinois family

Nebraska offers 2017 SF Charles Payton

Holding three scholarship offers, Bloomington (Ill.) 2017 small forward Charles Payton received his first high major opportunity prior to his junior season. Often first to the punch, especially in the state of Illinois, head coach Tim Miles and the Huskers came calling for Payton.

Side note, I believe Payton transferred to a smaller school. Like Olympia. Correct me if I am wrong

I think the Payton that transferred to Olympia is his older brother, who is pretty good as well.

Scratch that. Charles is the older one transferring to Olympia, Chris is the younger brother that is supposed to be the better of the two.

Chris is not better than Charles. Maybe he could be when he's older, but Charles is the one producing the most and is getting the most attention.

Weird that this is being brought up right now though, Charles was offered by Nebraska back in July..

I do not know much about either of them other than what I've heard from one person, who told me he thought Chris will end up being a higher ranked recruit than his brother.

Charles Payton already transferred to Olympia where he is sitting out due to IHSA rules. He transferred there when he turned 18 to live with his dad. This was a few days before Bloomington played Manual for their conference championship. I've seen both Payton boys play and they are both pretty good. Chris is a freshmen and has been putting up big numbers since his brother left. Idk about you guys but I would think that transferring right before regionals would throw up a red flag or two to college coaches but I wish the kid well.

Yeah he's not a freak athlete but I've only seen him play once. Not anymore athletic than Pickett and Pickett is putting similar numbers against much, much better competition. To be honest, a 1A player with that size should be getting more rebounds and blocks. I'd agree that they should look at him(because it doesn't hurt), but there's not much to see from Illinois' perspective. Nothing against him, we just need bigs, period.

Either way, he'll play at a high major and that's awesome when you come from a small town like Le Roy.

To the post above: Washington and Rock Island High School are like 10 times bigger than Le Roy. This even smaller than what Meyers Leonard came from.

Pickett's athleticism is being majorly inflated on this board. He's not even close to the same athlete as Chastain.

Didn't seem like Chastain was more noticeably athletic than Pickett when I saw him. Again, it was only one game so I could be wrong about his athleticism. I'm not saying that Pickett is a tremendous athlete, just didn't think that Chastain was either. Seemed like it in comparison to the other 1a players though.

I've not seen Chastain play, but I've seen Pickett plays 25-30 times in the last few years. Pickett is not a great athlete by any means. I've said this before, but he plays really similar to how Malcolm played at East. Great body control, slightly above average athlete, but nothing spectacular athletically.

Chastain is certainly a better athlete than Malcolm. I am not sure that he is Big Ten material, but he is without a doubt the best 1A player I have seen in a long, long time. You may have to go back to when there were just two classes to find one in 1A as good as him. Had alley-oop dunk over our all-state WR/DB and it was easy (you won't see Malcolm on receiving end of any of those). His rebounds and blocks are just fine Newman, especially when you take a look at a lot of their scores - you don't get many rebounds when you don't score a ton of points. Plus he's a guard, so he spends a lot of time outside. Comparison to guy at Oblong probably not good because while Chastain plays 1A, their conference is without a doubt the best 1A conference in the state, probably better than most 2A conferences.

Tilmon is at home in ESL for LaLu's break. Not Indy

Well there goes that wish. Hopefully the meeting will happen soon, at least before Michigan State makes their Final Four run. I enjoyed seeing Whitman celebrating with the players after the win yesterday.

He is a better player, though, imo. Plus he is a year younger and plays better competition.

And I have seen them both and caught them both on very good nights.

Rumors flying that if the team and Whitman are back in champaign before he heads back to LaLu he may stop in on campus on the way back. But nowhere near guaranteed and again.. rumors
