The only current tOSU player on the wing that would still be there would be Mickey Mitchell. Everyone else would be gone by the time his class arrives. We have Jordan, JCL, DJW, Kipper Nichols, Pickett. Some of those guys will spend time at the 4 but they're all currently wing players.

My point was speaking more to the fact that Ohio State attracts much better talent than we do, at all positions.

#OhioState has offered 2018 Champaign Central G Tim Finke @Timfinke_

#OhioState HC Thad Matta and Ast Jeff Boals & Greg Paulus were in to watch Illinois top ranked 2018 6-6 G Tim Finke of Champaign Central.
And here I am thinking all the big boys were going to let us have him because he's local and we got big bro. Oh well. Lets go get em.

He's scared of wing talent so he's going to Ohio State? For all the hand wringing, how many times has Illinois' depth actually scared away any talent in the past 10 years?

In reality, probably none. But if you ask this board, every recruit in the last 10 years has been scared of Tracy Abrams. :D

I wouldn't be so sure about that. I think his mom posted on Facebook a little while back asking people not to be too upset if he goes somewhere else. And I've heard he really likes tOSU.
Uthoff...goes to wisconsin and eventually comes back to his home school 30 miles from his house(Iowa).

There is a lot of recruiting between now and 2018. I would expect next year's tragectory for us and some degree of coaching certainty would make a difference in the end ( it would for me).

Simeon at Morgan Park this afternoon at 4:30 on the Cube.
http://thecube.com/event/battle-of-vincennes-4-simeon-at-1-morgan-park-boys-602042

For those of you who haven't followed or live out of the area, the turmoil around this game has been immense. Boycotts, security fears, change of venue about 5 times, more boycotts -- finally decided to play at MP's bandbox gym and then promptly laid off the head of CPS security and a bunch of his employees. Last time CPS allowed the game to be played at MP was 2006 when Simeon had D-Rose and the the entire Simeon team got attacked in the parking lot by a mob of fans and gangbangers who lived in the area, had to fight to get to their bus. Should be something. (And a good game too.)
The link above says it starts at 5, but MOB just tweeted that it will start at 4:30.

I would bet Verge was never a serious target for the Illini. Seems like there are too many ?'s surrounding the young man. I hope he finds his path and succeeds, but so far it appears he is still trying find his way.
If we know anything of past recruitments, when the dust settles and we are looking for someone, Verge will still be around and we call all justify why he will be a good fit at UI. i.e. Rako,

If we can't get Tim Finke I'll probably take a step back from Illini basketball. It would make me absolutely sick if he signed anywhere but here, but if he goes to OSU...Buckeye vs Illini games in Champaign would definitely be pretty awkward for him and his family, especially his freshman year when Michael would still be here.

Is anybody else paying attention to the bigs at the blue bloods? Diallo and Bragg come off the bench at KU and generally get less than 10 minutes. Labissere at UK comes off the bench and if memory serves me well, generally gets about 10-15 min per game. Humphries, the 7ft Australian from La Lumiere generally doesn't even get in games and of course, UK just signed 2-3 highly rated bigs. Jeter at Duke doesn't play despite their incredibly short bench. I hope Tilmon understands he will get the nod from day one.

While Swanigan, Stone and Bryant enjoy playing time and success in the B1G.

Come on in, Tilmon, the water's fine!

Still be here? Finke will be in the League well before Tim plays in college. We'll be lucky to have Finke as a junior, let alone as a senior!

Our wing talent is not likely to be better than OSU's whenever Finke signs or begins playing in college. We may THINK ours is better at any certain time, but it usually isn't.

AND if there are lacking high-profile wings, then they are likely to sign other 5-star wings soon after they realize they are lacking!

Holy hot takes. Have you been watching any B1G games. Finke has been a silver lining this season no doubt but imo and I speak for most when I say, he is a LONG ways away from the NBA. Definitely a 4 year player if I had to guess right now

As much as I like Illinois, I would look at Illinois and wonder how much playing time I would get if I were a wing. We're still a while away from knowing what the lineup would be like in 2018-19, but as of right now we're projected to be pretty deep at those positions, and there's no guarantee that he'll be as tall as his brother (e.g. Ben Hansbrough).

With that being said, he is still a must get. I don't think that would sit too well losing him to another school in the conference. I still hate that we missed on KBD even though he was from Bloomington.

Tim Finke probably knows if Black redshirts we don't have a scholarship in 2018 for him ;)

I think if we lose Finke, it will not be to a B1G team. Not sure if his recruitment will ever reach that level, but I'd be more worried if Duke or KU offered in that order. JMO.

Yeah people are PISSED about Skal around here. Part of it is that Cal keeps trying to get him to be a back-to-the-basket guy and he just isn't one. He is more of a face up guy. Humphries is getting very little playing time. Was a big mistake for him to reclassify and go to UK. UK's frontcourt is pretty bad this year. Ulis/Murray/Briscoe are the only reason they are winning.

I second that they call Skal soft down here but at the beginning of the season I was telling the BBN lovers that he was to small for the middle , guess i won that argument :D .

That's a common theme across the board with players from the south. They are all soft. They don't like contact. They tend to be vastly overrated. Competition for basketball in the south is not the same as up here. It's like ranking football players from Montana the same as from Florida. Obviously there's exceptions but this tends to be the case.

Obviously the real silver lining here is that Michael Finke could then pay for his brother Tim's tuition and we wouldn't have to use a scholarship on him.

I agree. IMO Duke is the only school he would think about going to over Illinois. I don't think he will get offered by Duke though. The only school in the Big 10 he will go to is Illinois. I would bet a large amount of money its either :illinois:, Duke or Kansas. If he doesn't get that big time offer(Duke, KU) he will end up here.

This may be true, but my point was that we currently have stronger wing talent in place for whenever Finke would step on campus. Of course this may change, but that's just making assumptions. Ohio State has recruited more highly ranked wings than us in Groce's tenure, and they have had a nice balance for most positions. Just curious, would you take Diop, Tate, and Loving over Nunn, Hill, and JCL?

Good question And I thought about that when I was typing my response. I don't think so.

Kansas got a commit from 5 star 2016 big man Udoka Azubuike today. That makes 4 big men in the last 2 classes for them, might make playing time there a concern for Tilmon?

Maybe?

One of Diallo or Bragg probably will make the jump after next season (ready or not) and the NBA is always willing to draft bigs on potential alone. Blue bloods bring in at least 1 big every season, you have to just for roster insurance.

Is Tilmon a priority for Kansas? They seem to have made Ayton a higher priority.

North Carolina might be more of a threat?
