I see there was another Crystal Ball for Goodwin to Illinois yesterday. That same guy still has Tilmon to UNC though.

I just watched these highlight films for the first time on this kid.... I would definitely take a chance on him IF he is interested and if he knows his role. He is not going to be a starter, but he can certainly play 10 minutes a game by the time hes a junior. I understand he played 1A, but you can see the talent. He has pure talent, and the kid can play. If there is a scholarship then I would like to see them offer him.

Also, that jump shot will get BEAT up and down the court in B1G if he doesnt switch up his release. His release takes a lot of time, would like to see him speed it up a little. I like what I see, could be a very solid mid major guy. Does anyone know if Illinois is actively recruiting him and if he is interested in illinois?
You don't recruit guys to play 10 minutes a game by the time they are juniors at a position we are loaded at it is a waste of a scholarship.

Chastain hype has gotten out of control. The kid is a good player. You put him on the court with a bunch of high major D-1 players though and he won't stand out. Suddenly his shot becomes a little harder to get off. His ballhandling is not good enough to take a good defender off the dribble.

How many of our recruits "stand out" when playing with a "bunch of high major D1 players"?

Did DJW stand out? Did Mike Finke stand out? Did AJ stand out? How about Kipper? Tate?

None of them did. Heck, MH had a good high school career but as a recruit did even he "stand out" on a court with High major D1 players? Probably not.

I like Chastain. Would be fine with him coming to Illinois. But as a high school player, Hill was far superior. I saw Hill a lot in high school, and he was big time.
He would have averaged 35 against the level of competition that Leroy played, IMO.

Bradley? So he can lose 27 games again? I wouldn't wish that on anyone. At least Illinois State is winning.

As an Illini fan, I don't think I'd be discouraging a promising recruit from going to a program that's currently struggling in favor of one who's had better performance lately or we won't have any recruits. ;)

Oh I know Hill was superior, I was just saying using that as a pre-req for offering might not be the best idea. MH was smooth in high school but has improved a ton just to "stand out" amongst high level D1 athletes. His hard work has paid dividends.

But I disagree totally about him averaging 35. He passed the ball too much and would have been sitting the entire fourth quarter against that competition. That is always what happens when you are that good. Stats don't adjust for sitting out a quarter or two per game. In 1A, other teams would have had 3 kids on him when he crossed the half line and he would have passed to the open man. I saw him make some great passes in high school.

Yeah...I'm not discouraging him from going anywhere. By the way, Illinois is not in any way like Bradley.

Anyways, I haven't found anywhere that Illinois is even looking at Chastain so can we please talk about recruits that Illinois is actually recruiting?

Nothing would end this Chastain recruitment better than him announcing with a hat ceremony.

The insider hasn't posted since making me wonder how confident they are if they truly are an insider.
