I have two eyes, when I saw Kipper walk by JCL and was a man vs a boy I knew we had a player. His videos showing him workout or shooting around are impressive. His measurables are only second to Hill and are better than Hill as a junior. He had a tremendous career in Ohio, similiar to what JG is having in Illinois. First team all-ohio as a junior and top player on top team. His ranking is a joke IMHO, he should of been top 100.

That's great to hear! He definitely looks like a grown man. I was just wondering I hadn't heard much, thanks.

This is the only St. Louis board I've looked at but they've gone from cautiously optimistic to kind of cocky. Although only 110 posts so far. The first post also quotes from the original Scout article that started everything.

(And for those of you who don't regularly read other message boards, please don't respond to the Groce and Illini bashing. We do it, they do it, all boards do it but you don't want to look like that goofball from Temple who used to come on here back in Brunson's recruitment do you?)

Everything else aside, my favorite was when one poster argued that SLU's supporting cast would be better than what Illinois could bring for Goodwin. I got a good chuckle out of that one. Transfers from MSU, Rutgers, and UCF should be feared, everyone.

I gotta admit...I read our board all the time and think plenty of posts are far fetched and dreamy. But, having just read their board, this may be the most delusional fan base out there (and I'm from STL). They really thought they were getting Tatum. They talk about that on there like we did with the Cliff thing...like it was a last second switch.

While that was comical, the posts that take the cake are the ones about if they could have combined Tatum with their teams a few years ago that went to the tournament, and how that would've put them in the final four. So now they're combining two mythical scenarios. I guess we should be spending our time talking about if we got Jabari (because that's about as much of a chance as they had with Tatum) and we added him to the 04-05 team...

I enjoyed the guy who guaranteed an Elite 8 run in 2018 if Goodwin chooses SLU.

I made it about half-way through the first page and had to yak. Those posters are straight up loony. Tatum? Really?! LOL

We've had more than our fair share of loony-ness on this board over the years. Can't fault fans for wanting to believe something that likely won't happen.

Seriously.

And it's funny, they know as little about us as we know about them, but here we are both trashing each other's teams and coaches ;)

I think the CM Sweepstakes inspired similar levels of loony here. Both times.

What was funny, was them talking about Travis Ford like he was some savior to the profession of coaching. He had all of the resources in the world at Ok. State and couldn't make it work. Groce has had his troubles but I don't think its close on who a program would want over a long stretch of time.

I think the draw for Goodwin is location, familiarity with the assistant coach and the fact that he knows that Travis Ford will be there past this upcoming season. The biggest hurdle of JG and his staff right now is that this is a make it or break it year for them.

No doubt, we've had some moments of silliness here. But c'mon! Albeit a small sample size, the posters on that board are pretty brutal.

I don't like to face it so squarely, but you are right and this is a very healthy reminder to us all.
If they land a class with the existing commits plus Goodwin and, say Frazier and Kiir, I think one could argue Groce has successfully bought himself time. I was a definite detractor - the end to 2014-2015 really haunted me. My outlook is very different now. Successful recruiting can do a lot. I want to see us succeed this year for sure, but I am far less adamant about the need for change if all these studs want to play for Groce and co.

And yet Groce has done an admirable job of recruiting for 2017 despite this obstacle. Makes you wonder what he could accomplish with a couple of years of reasonable success on the court.

I haven't seen too much trashing. Ford's coaching ability has always been questioned by 90% of the people who bring his name up on here. He is a great recruiter who was an awesome college player, but hasn't coached up his talent into a super competitive squad except a time or two. Even then, he always falls short of expectations. There Were a couple small setbacks at OSU for Ford, but nothing like what coach Groce has endured during his time here. I'm a Ford fan. I think the Cowboys should've giving him another 2-3 years, but he wasn't bringing in the players to make a complete roster. Losing Terrel to Rhode Island did not help as he would've complemented Evans nicely.

After all of that, the criticism of Ford is nothing new around here. It could go to a all time high if he steals another mega-recruit from us. FWIW, the Bilikens are not the same program as the one Majerus was making into a mid major giant. Not even close, a couple of his teams were top 15 caliber clubs. It's going to take more than the 17 class to get them going in that direction again.

Meyer changed his Kris Wilkes CB to UCLA this morning. People can talk about Ford all they want, but Alford. Now there's a coach I don't understand getting so many 5 star players.

Maybe I'm just ignorant but ucla doesn't seem like it should be that hard of a place to recruit to.

Call me spiteful, but I'm going to be awfully giddy if IU goes 0/2 on Wilkes & Scruggs.

People who haven't spent much time on the West Coast have a hard time understanding how big of a deal USC football and UCLA basketball are in the whole Pacific time zone.

There is UNC-type reverence for that program, and their recruiting has always reflected that.

Yeah, but it's Alford. And an underachieving Alford at that. I don't know what recruits like about that louse.

Their dream class for 2017 was Wilkes, Scruggs, Williams and Jackson. They could still go 3 for 4 but I think they'll be lucky getting 1.
