MS vs RM5 Elite. No Finke in starting lineup for 2nd game in a row.

I saw him at the Highland Shootout this year. He lit it up all night long from all over the court. Glad to see him getting his recognition. He could turn out to be a serious shooter at the college level.
I seen Hellems at the Highland Shootout as well. Was scratching my head as to why he wasn't the one being talked about in recruiting circles. I believe he stuffed Finke going up for a dunk and outplayed Finke that whole game; and Finke didn't play bad either. Hellems had 33 points and was 6-9 from 3.

Tim enters at the 9 minute mark. MS down 19-15. Promptly shoots an air ball from about 8 feet. Kid is totally out of sorts. Announcer is even talking about it, although he rhymes his last name with sink.

Man what a brutal tournament for Finke. Top 25 recruit as a freshman and possibly out of the top 100 sometime this year. Might be one Illinois has to let go. A month or 2 ago it would have been huge to get at least 1 of him or THT, now I wouldnt be surprised if Illinois gets neither. Especially with the Ayo/THT news.

Yea, would be surprised if we push more for DJ, Hellems (assuming he gets an offer), and more importantly Ignas, and start to ease off of Finke.

This is untrue. They played close to even the whole game with Finke finishing with around 30. The game went in to OT and Chaminade won. Finke, however, outplayed Hellems in their first matchup and won that game. Sounds like Hellems has eclipsed him this summer though.

Would you prefer "Stinky"? I think Finke will have a great high school year, wouldn't back off too much. A 6-7 good shooter with athleticism will do well in BU system and at the college level. AAU ball isn't for everyone, I think regular HS bb is a better gauge in many ways (structure). Finke is a smart bb player who can be a "glue" to what makes teams successful.

I agree to a certain point, but AAU is when you play against guys you'll play in college. He's played good at times but overall, not so much. As near as I can remember today, he's scoreless, just missed about 4 shots in close and a layup and is on the bench with under 3 to go, MS up 62-60. Not a good sign when Slaughter doesn't want him on the court in a close game at the end. He was the star of the team at the start of the season.
I'm rooting for the kid right now because he just looks bewildered out there and I know he's too good to be looking lost on a basketball court.

Sounds like the yips. Hopefully he gets through it. Seems to have a lot of potential and would hate any kid to lose opportunities.

Bazley now has a double double in every game at Peach Jam. MS up 67-65 with 22 seconds to go. Finke on the bench since about the 4 minute mark.

Sounds about right. He's short-arming everything, even layups. Still on the bench in OT. Tied at 67.

He is back in with 3 minutes to go in OT. RM5 ahead 74-70.

Pretty sure we are going to offer Hellems. Dude has been playing out of his mind. Some people will say we shouldn't offer its just one good tournament, but remember that after his junior year no one thought Mark Smith was going to be a high major player. Sometimes the light comes on for a kid and they blow the hell up. Hellems isn't doing this against bums either.

Who are some other comps to this kind of insane rise and how did those guys fair long term? Mark smith is good for the rise but we don't know his long term yet, obviously.

RM5 80, MS 74 in OT. MS falls to 1-3 and won't make Peach Jam finals this year.
Slaughter was playing offensive and defensive units after free throws, taking Finke out on the offensive possessions. Not a good look for a top 100 kid. He's only got 1 game left to turn things around or he'll probably be taking a big drop in the rankings.

I'm betting we do too. One game, maybe luck. He's had 4 games against top EYBL teams and been the star in each game.

Hopefully he uses this as motivation. Gets in the gym and works his tail off.
