They never mention him by name
Thanks for the post, Mike.
It may sound petty to us, but at the higher levels of AAU, they have a lot riding on these kids. Recruiting: how the sausage gets made.
They never mention him by name
I seen Hellems at the Highland Shootout as well. Was scratching my head as to why he wasn't the one being talked about in recruiting circles. I believe he stuffed Finke going up for a dunk and outplayed Finke that whole game; and Finke didn't play bad either. Hellems had 33 points and was 6-9 from 3.I saw him at the Highland Shootout this year. He lit it up all night long from all over the court. Glad to see him getting his recognition. He could turn out to be a serious shooter at the college level.

Tim enters at the 9 minute mark. MS down 19-15. Promptly shoots an air ball from about 8 feet. Kid is totally out of sorts. Announcer is even talking about it, although he rhymes his last name with sink.
Would you prefer "Stinky"? I think Finke will have a great high school year, wouldn't back off too much. A 6-7 good shooter with athleticism will do well in BU system and at the college level. AAU ball isn't for everyone, I think regular HS bb is a better gauge in many ways (structure). Finke is a smart bb player who can be a "glue" to what makes teams successful.
I agree to a certain point, but AAU is when you play against guys you'll play in college. He's played good at times but overall, not so much. As near as I can remember today, he's scoreless, just missed about 4 shots in close and a layup and is on the bench with under 3 to go, MS up 62-60. Not a good sign when Slaughter doesn't want him on the court in a close game at the end. He was the star of the team at the start of the season.
I'm rooting for the kid right now because he just looks bewildered out there and I know he's too good to be looking lost on a basketball court.
Sounds like the yips. Hopefully he gets through it. Seems to have a lot of potential and would hate any kid to lose opportunities.
Pretty sure we are going to offer Hellems. Dude has been playing out of his mind. Some people will say we shouldn't offer its just one good tournament, but remember that after his junior year no one thought Mark Smith was going to be a high major player. Sometimes the light comes on for a kid and they blow the hell up. Hellems isn't doing this against bums either.
I'm betting we do too. One game, maybe luck. He's had 4 games against top EYBL teams and been the star in each game.Pretty sure we are going to offer Hellems. Dude has been playing out of his mind. RM5 80, MS 74 in OT. MS falls to 1-3 and won't make Peach Jam finals this year.
Slaughter was playing offensive and defensive units after free throws, taking Finke out on the offensive possessions. Not a good look for a top 100 kid. He's only got 1 game left to turn things around or he'll probably be taking a big drop in the rankings.
