Man, I hope you're right. I've got a bad feeling he'll join Moore at KU, which would be so typical of an Illini recruitment. :(

Not sure KU is a big threat in this one. They have Moore now, and also have a chicago pg commit in the '19 class I think. Have to think the Irvins know that potentially having 3 of their pg's on the same team means two aren't starting the game.

I really like the strategy of making so many offers. This staff doesn't seem to put all their eggs in one basket. Blanket the class with offers of all the players you like and you increase the chances of getting your guys. The old strategy of keeping offers at a minimum always seemed to burn us. We would lose our #1 target and have very few options on our fallback guys.
Still not quite ready to buy into hype but I am warming up to the idea.
Absolutely right. It's like in the fantasy football draft. Don't fall in love with any player. Just look for value.

Would LOVE a class of Ayo, Griffin, Conditt and Pearson if he is included to get Ayo deal done...those 4 would address ALOT for us moving forward in 2-3 years.

Would be an excellent class given where we are now.

Jaxson Hayes from Moeller in Ohio is offered...looks like a promising kid.

He looks like a lower level Big George to me, looks bigger and little more jumping ability but after that, looks like Conditt has him on all other skills. That said if we are going to take 4 he would be ok as a 2nd Big, or you take him and Pearson both and just have them but EJ and OKORO would both pass them as soon as the step on campus as far as players

Is Xavier recruiting any other top guards that may play a factor?

You would have to think Scruggs plays a role. He is not one and done good but he would be very hard to unseat from a starting role. Nothing to say they couldn't play together but definitely a consideration.

Totally forgot about Scruggs. Good call.

Would Scruggs scare off Ayo anymore than Mark Smith would? I would think not

As good as we all think Smith will be Scruggs was a much bigger recruit. Also Scruggs is less of a combo than Smith. So yes I think Scruggs would be a bigger deterrent. I doubt it overwhelmingly affects the decision but probably a small factor.

More often than not it seems KU starts two point guards. Starting two (or three) from Chicago could be a selling point.

BU's system is less a competition for specific positions and more about developing interchangeable skill sets. Thus, it opens up the recruiting process for similarly talented players, knowing they can play at the same time. Ayo wants to play right away and he would wherever he goes. Underwood's offensive strategy, though, leverages Ayo's greatest strength--his scoring--and gives him extensive national exposure on TV in a premier league. Those are big psychological factors, along with one of the best conditioning programs in the country, which, in the end, IMO, pull Ayo in.

They 100% CAN play together, but so could Ayo and Scruggs.

Are we certain Ayo has the skill set to be a PG? I haven't seen him play any more than a highlight reel or two, but I remember a time when JCL was our PG of the future.

Also, I get the feeling Mark Smith isn't going to be eating up a lot of time as a PG. I guess this could be a moot point if we truly play positionless ball.

Chattanooga
Positionless basketball people. But for as long as Tejon Lucas is an Illini, he will start at the lead guard position. He's a natural leader who sets up his teammates.
