I don't possibly see the Illini with Tyty and NB. Not enough balls to go around.

Totally fanboying right now but if Boakye reclassed/committed (and had the same rating, which is probably the wrong assumption), and TyTy committed, we would have the #3 recruiting class nationally. Wouldn't have put money on that three months ago..

I think we have to get him. Can you imagine him and Goode draining 3's like they are shooting layups for the next 4 years?
Personally, I love guys who can move, defend, and hit 35%+ from 20-25 feet and free throws at 80%. Make them all 6'5" to 6'8" and they will score all day and make scoring tough against them. Throw in a Curbelo every 3 years with an athletic 5 who can defend 7 footers and you have a winner every year. Athletic guys who can shoot are a must in today's game....and this staff obviously is looking under every rock to find them and get them to C-U. More importantly, this team is made of of quality people who play for the team....which cannot be stressed enough in a winning culture. Just as important is the obvious fact that the staff can teach these kids to play defense as a team.

I've never seen a recruits competition discussed as much as Podz has. Is there another example of this in the last 10 years? Im curious how the recruit did in college.

With recruiting now appearing to be at an 18-year high, we might finally be in a position to just roll from year-to-year-to-year as a lock Top 15 seed nationally......which aligns with our all-time placement in NCAA history.

Very encouraging!

Brave new world territory. Gotta love it, particularly after this very long and disheartening slump.

For me the competition only plays in because he doesn't look athletic enough to me. If he was playing against top competition my view would be, even if I think he's a step slow he gets the job done so he should be fine.

However with him playing against competition where he isn't seeing hasn't other D1 players, I question will he be able to perform in a major step up in competition.

I sent his most recent highlight clip to my Purdue grad buddy and asked him what he thought without any context. He also said questionable athleticism and compared him to Foster Loyer. Simple fact is, he's not a slam dunk or everyone would have been in on him before the early signing period. There is definitely room for knowledgeable people to disagree.

Shooting the ball translates well. Kid can shoot. Sign me up.

Probably not as much but Aaron Jordan's competition was brought up some. Somebody else already cited our NBA big man who hailed from Robinson, Illinois but despite said competition he passed the freak eye test.

The other issue, the one being talked about less and probably the actual bigger one, is his star ranking. If he was a top 75 4* nobody would care about his competition.

Podz is a lottery ticket. Low cost, potentially high reward.

When evaluating high school guard talent, look for the players that make every move seem effortless. See Ayo. Compare Ayo senior year HS to Adam Miller senior year HS. Ayo was effortless, and Adam Miller was highly skilled, but not effortless -- DJ Steward was effortless, smooth. Mark Smith was an example of an effective HS player, but he was not a clearly fluid, effortless athlete. Podz is very Mark Smith-ish. Or a Malcolm Hill playing against junior high competition. Podz doesn't move at a high D1 level. I think he is a bust, frankly. The comparison to Tyler Herro is not justified. We should not underestimate how critical is it to find Ayo-like players to maintain our momentum. Curbelo fits that description, thankfully.

Tagging a 17 year old kid as a bust? By whose standards?
