I don't know about any inflated numbers for rebounds & assists. If Smith drives in the lane & drops it off to Epenesa & he does take a dribble that counts as an assist. If Smith goes up & grabs the ball off a missed shot that counts as a rebound... If Smith shoots & misses & gets his own rebound that counts as a rebound... I'm so tired of hearing about Edwardsville inflating Smiths assists numbers... Go to a game & watch him pass the ball unselfishly to his teammates...

I dont know anything about Edwardsville but its probably accueate. Mosr HS assists and rebounds stats are inflated. Points should be spot on but i would never trust any school saying their rebounds and assists stats.

There's enough attention now on Smith that I'm pretty sure people are keeping a pretty accurate track of his numbers. Once these guys blow up people start keeping tabs on it.. I have multiple friends that are h.s. coaches and others that are just fans of basketball planning on going and seeing him in the next few weeks..

I've seen him live 3 times this year and probably 12 times in the last few years... he is an awesome high school player, will be a quality college payer, but his high school stat line isn't even close to accurate

Mark's mom, is that you?

In all fairness the inflating stats thing is getting carried away.

People have their eye on him now. I didn't see anybody ask if Tilmon has had his stats inflated or Goodwin against Smith? Perhaps only Smith's stats got inflated despite multiple scouts being there.

People are getting carried away with the severity of it and scouts are keeping track of the numbers themselves when they go see him.

This isn't anything specifically regarding smith, this is an Edwardsville statistical issue. He is most likely averaging 6 boards and almost 5 assists per game, which is very solid!

I think it depends on many things. I film for my son's high school team and they use Krossover to breakdown the film. The Krossover seems to do a pretty good job of getting stats right. Not going to say they are 100% correct (but very close from what I have witnessed), but they are certainly not going to give double the assists or rebounds incorrectly.

I agree, Smith seems like a well coached player. I like that he already plays PG for his team, many projected PGs in college play other positions for their hs teams. Kid has excellent size, a nice shooting touch, and dribbles well. I think with steady improvements he would be a very good college player. I would be very happy with Smith and Epperson to close out what is already a great class.

Being from the area and playing in high school against Edwardsville I mentioned the same thing to a friend of mine from Edwardsville. One of their players a few years back was almost averaging a triple double and ever since then it seems there is always a guy averaging tons of assists.

You can still be a great unselfish passer and not average 10 assists per game

I'll add to this. Idk if krossover does this but when hudl breaks it down they do it by stat by player. So you can look at things on the breakdown like assists by mark smith. Rebounds by mark smith. It will show only those plays. Even if the hs staff inflates (they should to promote their guy), our coaches will see the real stats when they get the film.

There comes a point where stats are not overly important. There could be a player who has monster stats but whose game will not translate to the next level. Smith held his own against Goodwin as a PG. If they played 10 times the results would not change much. Kid has a good game and measurable that will translate to the next level and I don't know what his stats are. A good example was Jimmer from BYU. Great shooter, great college stats. Game just wasn't a fit for NBA.

Krossover does breakdown the game by individual players, so it gives a pretty accurate value for things like points (FGM-FGA+3pt+FT), rebounds (both offensive and defensive), assists, turnovers, steals and even fouls drawn on opposing team by that individual player. I think the program is a good investment for coaches who really want to know who/what is really happening on the court.

Still a LONG way to go, but I will take any good news we can get.

Yep. Very encouraging, but should be tempered by "so far." When the blue bloods come knockin', things may change. That said, think Ayo's strong family presence definitely helps us though.

But, once Epperson, Smith, and Tim Finke sign, where will we get the scholarships?!

IIRC the home team can. Since we wore white I assume we were the home team this year?

It looked to me like all four players were seated together at courtside, which says to me there were there with tickets from the recruiting staff. That is not an offer, but it sure seems like contact to me. We are not ignoring them. I suspect some due diligence is necessary prefatory to any offer.

My daughter played an away game, and had 10 blocks. The scorer only recorded 2. So maybe it works both ways.
