With Caleb Swanigans slimmer(he's stills hoss) body, he resembles Tilmon a bit. I think JT could play pf because it seems that their skill set is very similar with JT having an inch on CS minus 10-20lbs, along with a little more athleticism, and a little more range on his jumper. JT is a game changer. Off track, but our fan base gets poked about red-shirting, but I'd be nice to have MM as a rs-senior next season.

Same could be sent about most non-RS seniors in college basketball. The assumption, however, is that improvement is independent on whether a player actually plays during the season (even in much lesser minutes) or just redshirts. A lot of the game is mental, if a player RS, it does not mean that he will be exactly at the same point the following year as a player who got limited minutes.

There comes a point where stats are not overly important. There could be a player who has monster stats but whose game will not translate to the next level. Smith held his own against Goodwin as a PG. If they played 10 times the results would not change much. Kid has a good game and measurable that will translate to the next level and I don't know what his stats are. A good example was Jimmer from BYU. Great shooter, great college stats. Game just wasn't a fit for NBA.

Unfortunately, I think Hill is going to be a good example of that translation issue. Going into the season, a lot of opinions had him as a borderline NBA guy. If anything, I'd say his stock has gone down after how he's played against our best opponents.

Regarding Smith, I've only watched a few of the videos of him online, so not much to go on. The thing that stood out was his physical presence and willingness to drive into traffic. I can see where he'd be compared to Rayvonte. He didn't seem particularly fast with his feet, or explosive (although he brought some power and upper body strength to bear when finishing). Thought he had range on his shot too.

Anyone comment on his ceiling?

Ok. State with two 7'0" underclassmen on present roster. Strange choice for Sima.

Anybody know whether we've signed Mark Smith yet? It's been 24 hours since Braggin' Rights. ;)

Yeah, I really wish the staff/admin could keep him away from these kids. There is no way his awkward interviews make their visits more enjoyable.

They need to pull his press credential and keep him out of Ubben. The guy is just plain creepy.

Signed & Red-shirted, make a at for Ayo & Finke, paying his own way.....lolol

Well heard from a reliable source Bruce Weber (K-State) were in the house tonight to see Smith....17pts, 8 asst. 6rbs ( so the rbs & asst are inflated) so 4assts & 3rbs lolol....Im guessing in 1st half.....apparently he didn't play the 2nd half....

I'm glad that you clarified which Bruce Weber it was.

Well, this makes me nervous. If Weber is recruiting him, that has to mean that Smith is, at best, a mid-major talent. :D

Well maybe that's why the Illini hasn't offered but I think Smith will be okay..even if he goes & plays mid major hoops...I believe he has a real upside...I'm sure there are a lot of quality mid majors out there that would take & love to have Smith....

Believe Edwardsville also has a tournament with ESL and Belleville East? Thats probably the one to check out down that way.

I'm headed to Proviso West and Pontiac. Pontiac especially is stacked this year.
