Why a surprise? Black and Finke should graduate after the 2018-19 season, and some think Tilmon will be a two and done.

Yeah, thought this was pretty clear.

Black and Finke are both redshirt sophomores. They are in the same situation when it comes to any kind of injury redshirt situation which hopefully never happens.

Not quite. Typically the 6th year is granted when a player loses 2 seasons due to injury. Finke's red shirt season was voluntary, so he's very unlikely to be granted that 6th year if he were to get injured next year. But then again, Thorne seemingly didn't qualify either so you never know.

Tyger Campbell update, no Illini mention (though we're probably one of the ten mentioned).

COLUMBIA, S.C.- There’s a great deal of talent in the Class of 2019, and Tyger Campbell is at the forefront.

After leading La Lumiere (IN) to a Chick-Fil-A Classic Tournament title, the sophomore point guard said that playing alongside Brian Bowen, Jaren Jackson Jr. and Jordan Poole is a dream come true for him.

“It’s amazing, man,” Campbell said after the win over Oldsmar Christian in the final. “When you’re a point guard and you’re playing with dogs like this, I just have to facilitate and get people going. Then when I do that, I can get going, so it’s really a great feeling. It’s great because this atmosphere is top level competition, I would really compare this to the EYBL.”

Even as a sophomore, Campbell mentioned a couple schools that have really gotten on board early.

“Michigan State, Alabama, Creighton, Tennessee, UNLV,” Campbell said. “I’ve got about 10 or so right now. When that time comes, I’m just going to make the best decision for me and my family.”

After the 2018-19 season, leaving the cupboard bare if you don't recruit a 2018 big, or a second 2017 big. I thought I was being quite clear, but then again I didnt consider that some people just like to argue for argument's sake.

Mark Smith is a potential future NBA draft pick. If we miss out because we fail to offer, we'll rue the day. The only surprising thing is that it took him so long to realize that basketball was his best sport (even though he could possibly settle in as a 100 mph reliever in the MLB in 4-6 years). Offer now. Reap benefits for three years. Poor man's Russell Westbrook.

Anyone going to make it out to the Collinsville tournament today to check out some recruits?

At Pekin yesterday and through the afternoon session today. I don't know if Lanphier has any high major talent, but as a team, they are fun to watch. If you like watching pretty high level HS basketball, check em out.

I'd like to have $100 for every recruit we've talked about here possibly having a future in the NBA.....no wait, make that $1000. He's good, but he's still a high-schooler, and things are different in college. Maybe he'll work out, maybe he won't. To give him the benefit of the doubt, here's hoping he does.
