Better handles, better facilitator. But, yeah. No brainer, AFAIC.

I'd also say more athletic. Not that Ray wasn't athletic, but I don't remember him being athletic like that. Could also be because smith is a little taller/longer.

Agreed. See absolutely no reason to wait. Want this kid bad.

My take on the whole, "we have too many guards thought", is that I don't assume Smith would be pigeonholed into only being able to play point guard in college. From the looks of his build and his game, he could absolutely be the true combo guard that Groce adores so much. If he really is a legit 6'3 or 6'4, and with his current build, he could absolutely guard 1-2 positions and maybe even a 3 if he bulks up enough. I'm pretty sure Rice guarded 1-3 during his time at Illinois.

I finally got around to watching the highlight tape and granted that's what it is, but all I can say is....WOW. What are we waiting for????

We will only have two scholarship athletes over 6'9" next year. That's why.

Definitely drinking the kool-aid, but this kid looks like another Goodwin. But with better handles, better at facilitating. No brainer.

Mark Smith reminds me of DJax 2.0. Our program would be completely different if we'd landed him. I'm thinking the only hesitation from the staff is that they aren't pursuing more PG because they've already got 3 in the fold for the future (TJL, Frazier, and DMW). I say if we are still looking at a Verge (and I'm not sure if we really still are) then why not Smith? I'd take Smith 10 times out of 10 over him. Dude is a player with a bigger, college-ready body and won't have qualification question marks.

At 6'5" and 225, he could probably guard some SFs, too. If you can get a SF body with PG skills, than you DO IT. I don't care who you call the PG or PGs, get as many ball handling, passing, driving, shooting guys that you can, everytime you can. Don't overthink it, Coaching Staff.

Totally agree. Scholarships will work themselves out.

Villanova just won an NCAA title with only one player over 6'9".

Very good point. This game is guard dominated now. Take as many GOOD ONES as you can worry about the numbers later.

Yes we need another big. But we dont need two... We got two open schollys. Get Smith, worry about the big later
