Not concerned about rankings since Flo would be a project like Ebo who will pay great dividends in 2-3 years. Tevian imho is a miss by the recruiting services. It would be hard for him to break into a 10 man rotation his first year but I see 20 minutes his second year.

Those 20 minutes would come at the expense of who? The only wing we would lose prior to his second year, unless I am mistaken, that would be Aaron Jordan. With guys like Ayo, Smith, Frazier, Damonte, Lucas at the 1-3 spots, which give you 120 minutes per game (or an average of 24 for those five), just wondering who loses minutes? Not an argument, just wondering what your thoughts are. I guess if you go two deep at 1-3, with Frazier and Lucas at one guard spot and Smith and Damonte at another and then Ayo and Tevian at the small forward/third wing (put Ayo there because of his size), then it would average out to 20 min. each per game, although we know it won't be that balanced and will most likely vary from game to game. That would put Ebo and Vesel, along with Kipper and any other big(s) (Thamba) we get at two deep each at the four and five. That about what you were thinking?

He's a "project", but not a project in the sense that Ebo and Vesel are projects.

We desperately need another big for next season. Even if he can't step in and start or give us 20 mins a game. If Thamba can give us a legit 10 minutes a game and provide a solid defensive presence, that's something we need.

If there are more ready-right-away options out there, I'm all for them. But it doesn't appear as if they're knocking down the door to come here. So, if Thamba wants to come here, we take him. And if he doesn't, we better hope a good spring option -- or grad transfer option -- materializes.

I think we are more likely to go after a fifth year big to team with Finke to bridge the year gap to Okoro. Not only do we likely not lead for Thamba, I don’t think we are prioritizing him.

TJones is not a raw project, he played on the Nike EBYL with Bol Bol (#1 player) and S. O'Neil (Shaq son, top #30 player). He was one of their top players on a loaded team. THT does have good hands and is physically stronger than competition. What happens when the players get bigger and faster next year? I see THT in the Sergio mold, which isn't a knock. Sergio was a good/solid player but with a lower ceiling.

I'm confident that TJones will add muscle/size to his frame. I also have no doubt he can hit the 3 and attack the rim at the next level. Watch his tape. Don't know what is in between his ears, but yes most top tier hs players lack the defensive intensity. I've followed Illinois/Chicago hoops a long time. What are the IHSA names that jump out who have TJones size, speed, athleticism, and jump shot?
This just means he was on a very visible team, playing a key role, and still didn't get the offers.

If his maxpreps stats are correct he shot 25% from 3 his Jr year, best year was 32%. He's roughly a 70% ft shooter but he's 50% from the field. Averages just over 1 assist per game.

So it's not hard to read that. He's a great athlete who can just run around or jump over the competition, but isn't highly skilled. He doesn't point his elbow to the hoop when he shoots, it's winged out to the side. That is why his shooting percentage isn't great.

These guys are a risk. They won't be able to live on their athleticism in college. And regardless what some here are dreaming of, it is not easy to change your shot, especially if you wait until college to work on it.

Me I'd just take a big. With the 3 fr, Ayo, Lucas, and kipper, we are fine at the 1-3. Land Liddell and Whitney and Jones would be a transfer anyway because he won't get the minutes.

Kids do improve. Jones just moved up to #90 and a four star on Rivals.

He’s now ranked ahead of others we have recruited like Zion Griffin, Hellems, DJ Stewart, Castleton, Lathon, Aaron Henry.

Whitney is going to be a very hard pull. No clear path to significant minutes as a freshman. Can't assume he'll be an Illini.

2018- Ayo, Flo, Tevian Jones
2019- Okoro, Liddell, Kahlil Whitney

My dream. Do any of you think it's possible/likely?

Possible but not likely. We will need to add at least one more big (in '18 and/or '19) if we want to get Liddell. I doubt he wants to take the risk of being stuck at Center.

If we have juniors Ebo and Matic, sophomore Flo, freshman Okoro and senior Kipper AND EJ, I wouldn't worry too much about having another big

I think he can move higher. He seems to have similiar size and game to Nolley.

LMAO EJ isn't worried about playing the 5 here no matter who else we have, He will take Blacks spot at the 4 and nothing is going to change that, even if TJL has to play the 5

Landers Nolley is a 45% 3 pt shooter, Jones is 32%.

Jones is the better athlete, Nolley is more skilled. We need shooters far more than athletes right now.

Disagree about the not needing more athletes parts. I think B.Underwood plans on improving that.

Uh, what?

We desperately need a wing in that class. We needed one in 2018 and any we get now isn't going to scare off Whitney.

Yeah, I think Whitney will have a pretty clear path to playing time unless we land a stud wing in the 2018 class -- which isn't likely.

Jordan will have graduated by Whitney's freshman year, and Kipper will be a senior. Beyond that, we don't have any wings with his size on the roster. A senior Kipper Nichols isn't going to scare off an elite wing.

Now, we will be playing a lot of 3-guard offense with Ayo, Frazier, and Smith. So if you look at it from the 1-5 positions standpoint, yes. The 3 position will probably be Smith. But in Underwood's offense, that's not really applicable.

Given our alliance with the Irvins, we really need an assist from them in delivering Whitney.

Illinois wants Jones badly. Far more than Thamba. Different position, of course, but a much higher priority. I don’t think Thamba is even their number one target for 2018 prep bigs. I still think it will be a plug and play fifth year guy to team with Finke and Black. Then Okoro and Liddell the next class if all goes well.

This was actually said by Derek Piper on the Tay and Carp radio show tonight, too.

Yeah, I'm hoping thats the case. You can only have so many slots used up by project bigs. Underwoods style lends itself to playing 9-10 deep. Can't have too many slots go unused during a season when you want to play that way.

Dosunmu’s dad says he has a Grade A sprain and is day to day.

Morgan Park’s Ayo Dosunmu is on crutches, not playing tonight against Hammond at the Big Dipper.
