There are some rumors that two-and-done is going to be the new standard when the next NBA collective bargaining agreement is signed. That would be a convenient moment to prompt a fundamental rethink at the college level.

That's always the case, it's just a bargaining chip that's used and given away when the next CBA gets signed. No reason to think it'll change this time around.

Some kids would jump at a chance to play in a power 5 conference and if that's there only chance it's not so ridiculous never said Crean does it with every kid.

I can see how this works for a preferred walk-on, but any kid able to get a scholarship from a B1G school should be able to get a guarantee from another decent D1 school. I can't imagine too many kinds who turn down guarantees from another quality mid-major, let's say, just to see if they can play their way into a steady gig on a Big Ten roster. I guess it's possible, but it would be a strange choice.

Yeah, I don't think it is going to happen at all. I don't think it serves any real purpose other than being a concession.

Yeah, the NBA has things just how they want them. I will agree with S&C though that the NCAA needs to do something and they don't need the NBA to change their rules. Allowing undrafted players to retain their eligibility, for example. Of course, the coaches would hate that! :D

There's always Europe.

I honestly believe that once the coaches tell you that you do not fir their plans, you leave. Not much you can do, players never stay. JMO.

That's fair. No doubt the coach is the one with the power in that conversation.

Both high schools have been majorly remodeled and are pretty impressive. Still tough schools for discipline, but the facilities are very good. Can't tell you about the grade schools.

Do you know what she meant by Roach school area?

Most of the times. There are obviously the cases of players who feel they have outgrown the current level/team and want to play for a better program, conference, etc.

Creaning.....

For the Indiana visitors to the board: What is the IU fans' perspective on "Creaning"? Do they think Crean runs players off any more or less than any other coach? Do they think it's just part of how big time programs run, and Crean and IU are no different? Or do they feel a little oogy about the "what have you done for me lately" tone of it all?

Indiana Hoosiers Fan here. I check this forum from time to time, but rarely post. Many IU fans are not pleased with Crean's tactics - for most of us (myself included) it began with Matt Roth. A great shooter, a great student, and great person. But what goes around comes around and the following year we struggled shooting from the outside. There has been others and undoubtedly will be more. While "Creaning" is just part of college basketball these days, Crean tends to be very cut-throat in his decisions. Bridges burnt.

FYI - My gut tells me Wilkes will end up at UCLA. They have the #1 recruiting class in the country and that would be hard to turn down. I live 15 minutes from North Central HS in Indy and I watched him play three times last year. He's a man among boys. He may be thin, but don't let that fool ya'.

Agree. And like MOST things, its not what you say, its how you say it. I don't see anything wrong with letting a kid know he will have little to no playing time because of how the roster works out and where they are at on the depth chart, and that if they would like to find more playing time, they are free to pursue a transfer. I don't believe anyone posting on Loyalty has been in the room for one of these conversations with Crean for us to know the absolute truth on how these work out. So as an Illini fan I will chose to believe the worst about Crean and continue to hate him.

I spoke with a guy (couple of years ago maybe) who is not that far from our program. He told me about his own positive encounter with Crean...

It was a nice story, but I told him my own character flaws and fandom wouldn't allow me to cut Crean any slack. ;)

My guy @JavonPickett is having a huge summer! He is really improving from the 3pt arc and tightening his handles! #puresweatfam #puresweat

He's going to need to spend some time with Fletch! Someone find McColley and see if he thinks Javon should redshirt when he gets here...

Like his height and length, he looks super long. But man his shot and handles don't look smooth at all. Maybe it was the video. Also don't like practicing long stepback 2 point shots. High risk, low reward. Let's use that time to get the hitch out of his shot. But a couple years development with fletch and skill work and he's got a frame to be pretty good.

I'm not all the concerned about his shot as long as it's a high, quick release and it goes in. Steph Curry shoots on the way up on his jump shots and Shawn Marion really had a different stroke. The step back two reminds me quite a bit of Malcolm Hill.

His mechanics may not be "smooth" but his game is smooth as butter. He finds a way to put the ball in the basket despite it not looking all that textbook.

His shot is a high enough release (long arms) but not necessarily quick, hence talking about the hitch. And it's good to bring up guys like Shawn Marion, or even Kevin Martin but the truth is that there may be bad shooters with good form, but there's definitely not a lot of good shooters with bad form. Also, just because it's a good shot for Malcolm, doesn't mean it's good shot for someone else. Good shots are based on who shoots them and when.
