Which is a sentence that is saying there are indeed differences? I don't see why you think that proves your point of claiming I said they were the same. They are similar. Playing 1 of the positions is unlikely to prohibit you from playing the others. Especially not at 6-10.
If he was 6'10" and capable of playing the 2, he wouldn't be ranked outside the top 150. He would be ranked in the top 10... :hand:

Didn't realize Dan was Kathy!!
Kathy's post & subsequent discussion, which was initially in the September thread, was a good break point to begin the October thread :)

Reports seem to be that Wilkes is a pretty intelligent kid. Kids with more going on upstairs are able to see through some of the flash of big name programs a bit easier.

That's assuming flash is all the big name programs have to offer...

Something about Wilkes just strikes me as one of the rare kinds of dudes at his age who can see past the BS and see things for what they are. It's why it also gives me hope that we are in this.

The idea that we're the objectively right choice for kids is pretty facile.

There is no objectively right choice, and all of the schools on Wilkes' list represent fine opportunities for him.

What are the thoughts on Kiir and Wilkes in the same class.??

It's a mess for class balance, but Coach Groce has to take both of them if they want to be Illini. As Orange Fever used to say: take pie while pie's passin'.

Never said we are unequivocally the right choice, just implied that it gives me hope that we are in it if he can weigh his choices rationally, and then maybe it's a tipping point if he favors the coach/team who was most honest with him.

It's interesting that after Wilkes' 3 OV's there has not been 1 CB movement.

Wilkes & Co. must be keeping pretty mum. I noted that as well.

IU Rivals guy says he doesn't have a clue, but a guess would be IU, but also could see a # of options for him. Snow has even backed off of his earlier "I would be shocked if it's anybody other than XU or IU".
It's seems like the consensus on the IU boards is that XU and UCONN visits will happen.

Sure, Dan.

BTW, I'd like "Deez Nuts" as my alter ego. Don't ban me, dude! ;-)

He is just so creepy. He's landed big time recruits, but I just can't understand how a kid doesn't take one look at him, and run as fast as possible in the other direction.

I find Boeheim to be creepy as hell, but the kids don't seem to mind.

That's assuming that the whole class stays intact for 4 years which seems unlikely with a class that big. There might be a transfer, redshirt, etc.

I second the pie. If somehow we did land Kiir and Wilkes, I think Wilkes and probably Tilmon are gone after 1-2 years. Secondly, I realize that landing Kiir and Wilkes is still a long shot, but if we did, how good is that class amongst the all time great Illinois recruiting classes?

It would rank in the Top 2 or 3, no question. It might be the best when you consider the size of it and how it would fill every positional need. I hope we can have that discussion and it be actually based in reality. :thumb:

If you could add those two, you do it every time, class balance be damned.
As another poster pointed out, one or more in the class would be gone before 4 years anyway.

Would be foolish not to. You have to assume some attrition from the program. You don't want to get into the habit of oversigning ALL the time, but in a situation like this it would definitely be the right thing to do.

It wouldn't even be oversigning would it? I think it would just fill all of our remaining scholarships.

Yep. 6 rides available, no oversigning. If we do take 6 though, we're probably in an oversign situation for the 2018 class (of one or possibly two). Think Pickett will redshirt, so he'll be a 2018 too.
