IU has won 2 b1g championships in the past few years... I wouldn't call that mediocre by any definition of the word, even if he does miss Wilkes, which looks unlikely

Purdon't finally gets their big man--7'2" Matt Haams from Netherlands via Sunrise Christian Academy. The dunking Dutchman 2.0.

Sheehey was one of those players that I just hated to play against. Probably how other B10 schools feel about MH.

I guess, except when they all have played against MH, they still typically beat us. Not so with Sheehey, whose team regularly throttled us (and others), so he actually had the chance to be annoying.

If anything, I think teams playing us have known that if they can shut down MH, that is basically shutting down our team the last few years.

What the heck is with Purdue getting huge dudes with consecutive a's in their last names?

Not sure what you mean by string of bad recruiting luck but Indiana has been recruiting very well in the last few years, including multiple McD AAs. Crean had problems early on, but that was highly influenced by the mess left behind by Sampson. But he has turned the corner since then, IU has been recruiting well since the early years. So I do not think there is anything contingent on Wilkes.

Indiana has produced a lot of talent the last 8-10, a lot of it has gone elsewhere. Crean has landed some. I believe somebody posted that the last 5 or 6 Indy Mr. BB have gone elsewhere. Even this year, in a loaded Indiana high school class they have 3 out of state commits.

I think JG has made a good effort on Wilkes, but I just can't see Wilkes turning down Indiana for Illinois.

Indiana has Illinois beat on proximity (70 miles vs 120) and familiarity. It is the homestate school, but Illinois has a lot going for it in this recruitment as well. There is going to be an opening at the 3 with all the other positions filled with talent. There is going to be young talent coming in to join a talented veteran group.

In recruiting, it is not who you miss on, but who you get.

IU still got multiple McD AAs including James Blackmon Jr., Thomas Bryant, Noah Vonleh, Yogi Ferrell, and Cody Zeller, in addition to other highly ranked players (e.g., Troy Williams), plus as WVC mentioned, players like Oladipo and OG that proved as good as top ranked players. They have recruited very well. Even if they miss on Wilkes or other very good players.

Earlier Hoosier fans were touting this year's class as the greatest in the history of the school.

Wilkes--#18
Jackson--#22
Scruggs--#29
Williams--#30

Hope he can beat the hurricane and get out of Florida.

Sarasota is on the west coast of Florida so they should be away from the hurricane. Still think he'd rather be in the midwest for the next few days.

Unfortunately this is how I feel as well. Wilkes is obviously listening to Groce's pitch but IU has the home state school advantage.

It would be nice to get to a position again where other schools were saying this about the Illini and Illinois talent

If IU has such a good chance with Wilkes I am wondering why he just doesn't commit if he knows the program so well, him not committing tells me that he is seriously considering other offers.

Kids increasingly leave their home state to go to school -- whether it's Indiana, Illinois, Florida, et al. But Crean has landed a bunch of highly-touted out-of-staters to make up for it. It's not who you miss on, it's who you get.
