Boy I am so glad we are reliving that mind boggling period of complete ineptitude. :(

Wilkes has been a regular at Hoosier Hysteria, which this year is on Oct. 22. That is a clear inflection point (attending/not attending), so his decision will most likely be before that.

Signing Day isn't until November 9th so his decision will most likely be before that.

But in all seriousness, I think IU's HH has little barring on when Wilkes announces his decision.

Kris Wilkes has been attending Hoosier Hysteria since freshman year, all 3 of the last HH events. Not attending this year will make a strong statement, and there is little chance he will attend without making a decision. So his decision will be before that.

whoops, another post just appeared on page 40 so the two I'm referring to are AK Hoosier and Brass Cannon, who I think has posted here a couple of times. Hi BC!

That post makes little sense. Why would Wilkes confirm for HH before announcing? It is not that it will get sold out and will no save him a seat. :)

I didn't say Wilkes confirming a HH, but no sources have revealed he will be in attendance. Now granted because hes local and no arrangements have to be made its very possible its just being kept under wraps.

This recruitment is just so odd when it comes down to it.

Alex Bozich has him a Crystal Ball pick which usually means the kid is IU bound. He doesn't often pick somebody to IU unless he is sure.

On the other hand another indicator that IU fans use is Marni Mooney following a player on twitter, to the best of my knowledge she has only followed 1 athlete that didn't end up playing at IU. And Wilkes has not been followed.

05 and 06 were on the heels of our NC run, and our best haul is...Jamar Smith? Admittedly we got a little unlucky with him getting kicked off the team and IDKWTI, but, wow. Just wow. Not to beat a decade old dead horse, but talk about a squandered opportunity. Wow.

I thought this was going be a fun topic and a nice break from re-hashing the same hypothetical narratives we seem to project in every recruiting scenario but now I'm just depressed. Is it weird I never really considered myself anti-Weber until October of 2016?

If sources had confirmed he would be in attendance, that would have meant that Wilkes had told people he would attend. It would not make sense for someone who wants to have an announcement. Telling anyone that he would attend HH would mean that he is going to IU, so making an announcement after that would not make sense.

If he goes to HH, it is pretty much IU, and you would agree on that. If he does not, it would be a strong statement that will not. For a casual recruit maybe not, but not for someone who has attended HH religiously since freshman year. So he will make an announcement before HH. It is an inflection point, unless he drops IU and keeps the suspense going between UCLA and UI, but I do not believe he will do so.

Obelix, can you please clarify whether or not HH is an inflection point? ;)

You realize that sometimes inside sources reveal information without the Athlete wanting it to go public, right? That is what I am alluding to. He would not be the first athlete that tried to keep his attendance underwraps that fans on the internet learned about because of an insider leaking the information.

But otherwise we are in agreement. He might be saying hes waiting till November but come Oct 22 he is making a very clear statement that one team is out. Unless he has something just uber important on the 22nd he just can't miss.

Sure, but you do realize that once a recruit, especially a top local recruit, tells the school "inside sources" that he is attending, that information will go public indeed. I think Wilkes knows that. :)

On the rest, we obviously both agree.

I've been looking to Bozich and Meyer on this and both are sticking with their last picks, Indiana and UCLA respectively so it could be he really is undecided between the two. Would like to see an IL CB at some point just to inject a bit of interest in things, but I really do think it's down to Crean-Alford at this point.

True but it does happen. And my point was just that because we haven't gotten it I am getting nervous.

Part of me wonder just how much Wilkes just wants his moment. He doesn't seem like that kind of kid, but I could understand him wanting to build the suspense.

He does not seem like a person who wants to build suspense, I think he announces this coming week. If something should get you a little worried is the timing and announcement of Justin Smith. JMO.

I'm choosing to believe this to simply avoid a possible let down. However, unlike some recruitments, these guys are giving their best guesses. Wilkes is keeping this pretty close to the chest and if we were really out and had zero shot he would not have named us as a finalist. He didn't want Xavier or UCONN to use their resources on him and then miss on other targets so I assume that same argument extends to us. He said that in so many words in the last media write up by Indystar.

Ever think that the Hoosier inside Wilkes just wants to screw Illini nation by dragging us along until the very end without any intentions to commit. He is a Hoosier guy and that is what Hoosiers do. Not feeling good about Wilkes or kigab. Kiir is a different story. Feel like we have a good chance with kiir. Go Illini!

Nah. In no way was Wilkes dragging UI along. Went through the process like every smart recruit does.

Um, no. Wilkes and his family have far too much integrity to pull a dick move. Why you think this is beyond me.

Yeah, I don't think there is any reason to think this is the case. The family seems to have handled the whole recruitment very well so far. No reason that they would decide to turn it into a circus at the last moment.

I have a gut feeling we are going to sign 2 more players in the next month and have the class that changes the program for the next half decade

Dramatic? Maybe. But it sounds good.

I think you are reading way too much into the story. All Wilkes said was that he took a picture (at one point during his visit) and sent it to Alford (at some point, maybe not even during the visit). Wilkes was there on his official visit for a whole weekend, he was in and out Crean's office and IU facilities. You have built a scenario that Wilkes totally disrespected Crean while Crean was talking to him about important stuff, just ignored him, took a picture, and started texting with Alford while Crean was talking to him.

If that ever happened, it would be more damning on Wilkes' character than anything else, but doubt it happened this way. Texting Alford that picture is not exactly positive for Alford either, but I doubt Wilkes is a master psychologist. He is just a kid who thought it was funny to see Alford's picture at IU.

That's fair. I thought it read as he took it while he was in the office. Regardless, I still think it reads odd for IU. We can agree to disagree man.
