As a parent, those are some screwed up priorities. Miss two days of class to be home for the weekend? Not at my house.

Don't most high schools support college visits during the school year for seniors? In fact IIRC correctly our student advisers even came with us.

I don't think it's possible for Castleton to gush anymore about Michigan than he did in that article. Shoot, he made me want to go and suit up for Michigan. Looks like we not only miss out on having him play for us but we also get the pleasure of playing against him for 4 years.

Like he's almost selling himself. Is it possible that he doesn't end up at either UI or UM.??

Was there a similar write-up after his Illinois visit? If so, I don't remember reading it. If not, hope is all but extinguished.

Notsureifsrs........

Many top high schools not only allow students to take visits to colleges at the expense of a cpl days of school, they actually encourage it as application season begins.

I mean the point of high school is to prep for what's next, college or trade school or work, whatever.

This is a kid who needs to decide quickly (as each school he is looking at only has a few schollies) where he wants to get a free ride for an education and to pursue his NBA dream, and I think that takes priority if you have to choose between a day or two of class or a visit.

Tim Finke is not a Big 10 caliber player, at least from the standpoint of someone who you can win with in the Big 10.

Roster filler, sure.

I know we can possibly get legit post players in the class of 2019. My biggest concern is that we desperately needed to get at least one this year because of how long it take to develop post players. Getting a very talented post player this year would give them time to develop prior to Finke and Black graduating, so that when they leave, he could come right in and play. If we don't land someone until 2019, their development will be much slower and it also puts a huge burden on the shoulders of the staff to find someone that is ready to play right away.

Yes there is nothing wrong with visiting colleges on school days.. In fact it makes a lot of sense if you want to see what the day to day student life is actually like vs. a mostly closed campus with parties.

I am a teacher. I take kids to UT yearly on weekdays so that they can not only see campus, but also sit in on classes and see what college classes are like. To me that is much more important than sitting in your normal HS class for that day.

Secondly, it is a 3 day weekend for Columbus Day on Monday. Some schools will take the Friday before for different things such as professional development for teachers, or parent/teacher conferences. I can't speak to his school's schedule, but it is possible he is only missing 1 day of high school to see 2 days of college.

Remember when we were all convinced we couldn't land him because he would end up at Kansas?

That's sort of the point behind taking Greg Eboigbodin in this past signing class. Of course, who knows if he will pan out, but it's not like we have zero people potentially filling that role.

Writing is on the wall here between this article and the canceled visit

Interesting tidbit:

"It's really good to see that they could put me on the floor (in Wagner’s spot) and they showed me after practice. I'm not allowed to work out or shoot and stuff like that, but he just put me on the court and showed me different places that I could be. I felt comfortable in those spots. I obviously wasn’t allowed to work out for him and shoot and stuff like that, and they stressed that.

Seems the staff went out of their way to ensure if talked about, the "placement on the court vs practice on the court" would be driven home as not "practicing", fringe recruiting I would say. Practice could be construed as mental preparation as much as physical play?

Also, if GE does pan out, that's a great selling point for the staff moving forward.

Good point, though I'd hardly call it a lock that GE pans out, despite some of the hyperbole about him on this site.

BU has said GE is the best athlete on the team. I think we can assume his strength will be on defense.

Doubtful. Walking a kid around the court to show him the principles of your offense in order to show him your plans isn't practicing IMO. Drills would be another matter, but if he's explaining, even on a court, I don't see any chance that would be prohibited. Seems contrary to recruiting to do so.

Definitely not a lock, but I like the chances of him being a serviceable defender. Good athlete with a 7'4" wingspan is nice.

Well he was top 25 at one time. :)

And Henricksen had Finke number 1 in the state at one time, a fact one of Ayo's friends never ceases to remind him when he starts an article out "Ayo Dosunmu, who Hoops Report had as the number 1 player in the class from the first moment we saw him as a freshman".
