Beilein and Jeff Meyer

Would like to hear Dakich’s take on that association, given Meyer’s association with Quin Snyder and Kelvin Sampson as both programs were about to be hit with sanctions.

Yes there is nothing wrong with visiting colleges on school days.. In fact it makes a lot of sense if you want to see what the day to day student life is actually like vs. a mostly closed campus with parties.

Kind of one in the same as I remember it! :thumb:

BOOM! Feed my ego.
Interesting tidbit:

"It's really good to see that they could put me on the floor (in Wagner’s spot) and they showed me after practice. I'm not allowed to work out or shoot and stuff like that, but he just put me on the court and showed me different places that I could be. I felt comfortable in those spots. I obviously wasn’t allowed to work out for him and shoot and stuff like that, and they stressed that.

Seems the staff went out of their way to ensure if talked about, the "placement on the court vs practice on the court" would be driven home as not "practicing", fringe recruiting I would say. Practice could be construed as mental preparation as much as physical play?

Dakitch played at IU, won a BIG10 title, coached at IU, and IU despises him. That is hard to do. That's all you need to know about Dakitch.

I know we can possibly get legit post players in the class of 2019. My biggest concern is that we desperately needed to get at least one this year because of how long it take to develop post players. Getting a very talented post player this year would give them time to develop prior to Finke and Black graduating, so that when they leave, he could come right in and play. If we don't land someone until 2019, their development will be much slower and it also puts a huge burden on the shoulders of the staff to find someone that is ready to play right away.

We were in worse shape this year (provided both Black & Finke return next year). Same 4 bigs, with the 2 freshman turning into sophomores. Hopefully we can add 1 or 2 of Ayo/Nolley/THT/The Finn...add that to Kipper, AJ, Mark Smith and we are big enough at guard/wing that we will be ok. It would be nice to get a big or 2, but by getting both Matic & Greg we would be ok, But yes it does put the pressure on 2019, could probably sell an additional 5th yr grad transfer to patch up 2019 if we don't get a couple promising bigs in 2019

Doubtful. Walking a kid around the court to show him the principles of your offense in order to show him your plans isn't practicing IMO. Drills would be another matter, but if he's explaining, even on a court, I don't see any chance that would be prohibited. Seems contrary to recruiting to do so.

Agree, especially after the last couple of weeks I don't think this would register

I'm sure we land a big , all may not like one staff chooses, and it might not happen till spring.:thumb:

I still think going Flyin Illini 2.0 is the way to go. The game is changing, bigs are less needed/lesser valued now more than ever, unless they are stretch bigs.

Stay 6-2 to say very mobile 6-8 or so, and I like our chances against every team, as long as they are all athletes.

And this is ok since there will be other notable, available 2018 high schoolers de-committing from previous college choices that may be sanctioned, we'll get our big(s).

The Florida situation is turning out to be pretty much the way Kuhl laid it out. Also confirms, Florida's telling CC to go the prep school route and re-classify to 2019.

If Conditt's ride ends up going to Simons instead, I think I would be okay with that.

the two recruits we missed on so far this week had composite rankings of 219 and 304 overall

A lot of people are hating on BU because he didn't land Conditt and is likely not going to get CC.

You guys have to realize that BU got the Mr. Basketball in the state before he even had coached a practice here at ILL. He also has us in a good spot with Ayo and if he is able to lock him down, he has gotten the last 2 Mr. Basketball's in the state of Illinois. :shield:

That is something that Groce was never able to do in his entire career here, let alone doing it back to back.

That right there is success, no matter what big guy we end up with.:thumb:

That may be true, but the staff wanted them. CC is 117 on 247 composite. Also, most bigs take time to develop. If you're a class back, you're probably waiting for them to develop a BigTen body.

Who’s the jabroni over at the Wake board?

Leave them be. Let them be the ones who get nut punched this time.

agreed. and Smith and Ayo likely have the ability to make the players around them even better. I'll take stellar guard play combined with heart/grit insiders, rather than the other way around. Obviously, I'd prefer both, but we've been so devoid of competent guard play, I crave it...and the way those guys can feed the beasts.

Austin Colbert was # 113 and staff wanted him.:)

This cannot be overstated. If/when there is a fallout is when guys like OA can earn his keep. And at this point last year Mark Smith didn't even had a major offer (I didn't look up exact timelines) yet. Let's let this play out.
