I (and likely the respondent) was using Slavs instead of Slovenes. Most everyone in that part of the world is A Slav. Croats and Serbs included.

As a 3rd generation descendent of immigrant Serbs, I'm familiar enough with the tribal nature of that part of the world to know that even though the people in that region are far more similar than different, they still are able to find reasons to kill each other over minor differences, both real and perceived. From time to time they get along, but it's always an uneasy truce as opposed to a lasting peace. Of course, once many of them got over here, they were treated as a uniform group, and poorly (like every other immigrant group), so learned to appreciate some of the similarities more.

This this thread is off the tracks:illinois:

Well get over there and retrace your roots! Look up some family! While you are there you can go look up Samanic and take him out for a pizza. I'm really interested in what the pizza is like over there!?!?! ;)
Having family from Ljubljana and having visited them, I can tell you it's basically authentic Italian style. Thin, chewy crust, less cheese than what we use. Good to be sure, but I'm still a bigger fan of my Chicago style.

Last time I was over there, I hung around a few barber shops and cevapcici vendors, but didn't pick up anything useful. Of course, i don't speak the language, so . . .

Awesome? But you didn't catch the reference/joke I was trying to make there. Someone will. ;)

I prefer Pizza Hut.

Fine then, you should know, although the dynamics are totally different (e.g., softball) in different sports, including within AAU sponsored sports.

Even what most people consider "AAU basketball" on this board, has nothing to do actually with the AAU organization. There are literally thousands of AAU basketball programs, and I think AAU basketball is a great thing. I have been involved for a long time. What most people consider "AAU" on this board (and other boards) is really the shoe company sponsored programs (extremely small percentage of AAU programs), which just happen to also be registered as AAU teams.

I believe AAU is like “Coke” it is a generic term that is accepted to describe the summer circuit.

It is not, but it does not surprise me that people have a distorted view of what it is.

I understand the difference but it is easier to say AAU rather than Nike or Adidas or any of the others. Kind of like in baseball there is the real “showcase” tournaments and then there are the “showcase” tournaments in small towns that there really is no one to showcase for.

Guys, I am well aware of Mr. Smith, a great get without a doubt, but again I am discussing 2018 ONLY. Yes, Ayo is another great get, but a 1 stud class will never yield long term success in the B10, let alone nationally. At this moment we have a 1 kid class, period, end of discussion.

You don't seem like a negative that will ever be a positive.

Well, I am not sure how saying AAU is easier than saying Nike, but the bottom line is that this is not what AAU is. As I said, only an extremely small percentage of AAU programs are company sponsored. There are a lot of very competitive tournaments with some top talent that are not exclusive to shoe company programs, especially at younger ages. Below is the link for AAU if people want to read more:

You realize that Underwood has been here 7 months right? In 7 months he landed two Mr. Basketballs, with one most likely being a McDonald's All American from the CPL. This is without seeing them play one game under his watch.

Again, I'll take our guy.

An Argument could be made that he landed potentially 3 Mr Basketballs...DaMonte was well on his way prior to injury.

I think he is being vastly underrated. Everyone is speaking about how surprised they are of his talent, overall he might end up being better than Frazier and Smith...I would certainly expect at least one of them and they are all very good guards. We are finally in a very good place, which makes the light at the end of our past dark tunnel much brighter with all three of these young men added to the team!

He was out for the season halfway through his 4th game. What possible sense does it make to say he was "well on his way" to being Mr. Basketball?:tsk:

https://www.prephoops.com/2016/11/illinois-mr-basketball-candidate-damonte-williams/

The sense to it was at the time, junior year and summer play, he was rated Top 50, and many reported at the time that he was a very solid candidate to become that...attached are just a few that reported the type of talent/potential accolades.

I don't think it is to far fetched to state he would have been well on his way had his HS career hadn't ended the way that it did. The few games he played prior to injury, he was averaging like 26 pts per game. Pretty sensible to me:cool:

4 Solid Recruits in 6 months!!!!

Spring? What did we really do in the spring? MS of course, but his recruitment was destined for the spring, nobody outside of mid majors cared about him until the spring. We got Spicy (could end up being a diamond), but he was bound for UIC, MV, who may or may not even pan out to a mid major talent. MS, a grad transfer gem that was an awesome get, but his type may not be around next spring, and if he was, we need him in the form of a big.

Nothing you guys have given me lead me to believe the spring is going to offer the glory we got this spring. Bring it!

BU has been on the job for 6 months. In that six month period of time he has brought in 4 recruits that I am quite impressed with (and has held on to a couple more excellent recruits which don't count). Numbers wise he is recruiting at a pace that, on average, will land 8 players a year. We can't take 8 recruits per year so, I for one, like his pace. Me thinks your angst stems from looking at it from a calendar year perspective vs. a real time perspective.

Uhmm... yeah right... so how does the argument go that we "potentially landed 3 Mr. Basketballs" when Damonte who played 3 games his senior season would have had to beat out Mark Smith to win it?

I am not taking a side on this BUT in all reality Had Damonte not got hurt Mark Smith would of had to beat him out for it, like he did JT and Goodwin. It really isnt a fair thing to try to even argue cause no one knows for sure how his season would of went. That said people need to think about that when they keep saying AYO is Mr Basketball for 18 a lot of things can happen,

If you can't see that the poster was meaning Mr Illinois basketball "caliber," then I can't help you!

Some undervalued DaMonte's pop until he graduated.
