Goodwin yes but not really Tilmon. Goodwin lost it when he got pretty much schooled by MS multiple times. It also didn't help his case that he was committed to SLU.

In the 2 games that Goodwin played against Edwardsville last year, he averaged 33.5 pts and 13 rebounds. I'm not a fan of Goodwin but I wouldn't say that he got "schooled" by anyone.

Do the Slavs and the Croats get along? Or might we be inviting another THT/AYO type situation with thousands of years of history behind it instead of just 12 months?
I looked that up and they do. Though there are some border disputes holding up both of them from joining the EU.

The more you know

Could it be that Ayo visited and liked Illinois more than the other schools and Talen visited, really liked it, but thinks ISU is a better fit for him? Does it have to be Machiavelli? Ayo seemed to be reaching out to Tay-tay. If I were Talen I'd want to stack a team up and make a run; either he wants to stay in state or not. I for one, wish Talen all the best! Good luck sir! I hope we beat the ever-loving snot out of your team in the tourney some day, but in a respectful, sportsmanlike manner. :)
+1000 very well put, thank you

I normally don't like when people do this but I missed the last billions pages (feels like it) since the THT decision. Most of it is probably people have the same discussions about that issue.

So any news in there about other recruits besides THT and Ayo?

Yes but not involving :illinois:

Fine then, you should know, although the dynamics are totally different (e.g., softball) in different sports, including within AAU sponsored sports.

Even what most people consider "AAU basketball" on this board, has nothing to do actually with the AAU organization. There are literally thousands of AAU basketball programs, and I think AAU basketball is a great thing. I have been involved for a long time. What most people consider "AAU" on this board (and other boards) is really the shoe company sponsored programs (extremely small percentage of AAU programs), which just happen to also be registered as AAU teams.

I was wondering about this, thanks for the clarification.

wasn't MS schooled by THT and wasn't AYO schooled by him as well, should be very interesting when MP and Simeon play this year

Without a doubt MP/Simeon should be extra interesting this year.

Just one of too many articles, but this one states that U of I NEVER waivered on recruiting THT, stayed in the hunt until the last minutes despite the MIV not wanting the two to play together. Perhaps ultimately THT decided the garbage stench from the MIV camp would taint his college experience lead him to ISU. Perhaps he was never going to pick U of I? Regardless, at the end of the day WE LOST OUT ON ANOTHER recruit the staff wanted in a bad way.

I have said it here many times before, and created a list of first year coaches who have reeled in a great 2018 class. I really want to join the camp of " Move On Whose Next", but I can only let my opinions be guided by the facts at hand to date, which is that Illinois has had (of course outside of Ayo), a bad 2018 recruiting period so far. Whose next is the million dollar question?

Yea he got his but I seem to remember that it was obvious that MS was the better player. Also MS won both times.

How can I be in the minority? To be clear, I am only stating my feelings on the 2018 class. I also have high hopes that this staff and program will prosper down the line. I also fee very good about the 2017 class. As of today, and based on the whiffs we have encountered, 2018 class is surely not what this staff envisioned so far.

Yes, we got Ayo, and that is a huge get, but I have to believe the staff would tell us all they were hoping for better results for the 2018 class. No slam or discount to getting Ayo, but this is not 3 on 3, class depth has to be better. For goodness sakes, KY, Puke, etc.. load up with multiple 5* kids and they don't win it all every year.

Thanks for posting this a very good read according to this he Illini never pulled said scholly and THT did what he felt was best for him. Still think in heart he wanted to be an Illini. :illinois:

I guess that every subject is like this. Some people believe political candidates, some people believe in organized religion, some people can watch the news and believe everything. Now add this to the list.

If you believe that the Illini never pulled the offer , I have a bridge to sell you...

BOOM! Feed my ego.
Who's the next likely recruit to watch? Finke? BPJ? I'm already moved on and ready to see who wants in.

Ditka is a goofball, but he was spot-on when he said those who live in the past are cowards and losers.

Ice, put another way. Why not us right now, or why others with a first year coach? Why OSU, why Sweaty Archie at IU? This is the deep dive I am looking for comments on. OSU has not been any better than us the last few years. UI has been better, but no powerhouse by any means. These are just 2 in our conference that I reference; plenty more first year coaches, who HAVE NOT COACHED A GAME YET, are not in this rocky boat with the 2018 class. Other first year guys (who were on our "media list of candidates" have good classes). Why not us?

I raise my hand.....The 2018 recruiting class is not over until next spring??? Is that a accurate statement or no?

Did you forget the part where our first-month coach landed Illinois Mr. Basketball this Spring and just landed the likely Illinois Mr. Basketball for this upcoming season literally a week ago? All of this is without coaching a single game yet.

Recruitment is the dirty side of college basketball, we just never been a part of it before. Steps that have been taken are made to make the next step, #wewillwin. I'm sure the staff will weigh the costs to see if worth the benefits.
Next recruit please.

Landing Smith and Alstork would of been enough. But he added two bigs that will contribute in 2 years. You guys keep forgetting we have some very good young guards for the long haul. Need another big this year though.

Yeah, bad outside of that one 5 star kid...

This crap went on for years. Now with social media and every so called insider, rumors spread like wildfire. It’s unfortunate to see how these handlers drew hs kids all the time in order to “get theirs”. The backpedaling articles are something else. Hope THT excels at ISU.

Don't know what you checked, but Croats are Slavs.

I (and likely the respondent) was using Slavs instead of Slovenes. Most everyone in that part of the world is A Slav. Croats and Serbs included.

As a 3rd generation descendent of immigrant Serbs, I'm familiar enough with the tribal nature of that part of the world to know that even though the people in that region are far more similar than different, they still are able to find reasons to kill each other over minor differences, both real and perceived. From time to time they get along, but it's always an uneasy truce as opposed to a lasting peace. Of course, once many of them got over here, they were treated as a uniform group, and poorly (like every other immigrant group), so learned to appreciate some of the similarities more.
