I could be reading the Valtonen situation wrong...but to me, the silence is a good thing. Kind of a quiet confidence. Maybe not wanting to overshadow Ayo's visit?

That quietness by the Mighty Finn may have included a silent verbal on Wednesday which would be a great precursor to the Ayo visit to give it additional momentum.

Some of you put too much stock into recruiting rankings. Most of those guys have no clue anyway. Let BU prove himself - Illinois will be just fine. He hasn't even coached a game yet. It's a hard sell in your first year with no games under the coaching staff's belt.

Home Run Hire!!!!
Agree.....I think Whitman is doing some good things.....:illinois:

We are not going to rerecruit Nolley and let me give you an example why.

Several decades ago there was a concensus first team all stater that everybody wanted. It got down to Illinois and another BIG. The other BIG won.

September of his freshman year, I bumped into his sister and asked how her brother was doing. Hates everything, was recruited over, they want him to change positions, etc. Mom and dad are telling him to tranfer JC before practice begins so he will be elgible somewhere else next year. Then the zinger.

He really wished he had gone to Illinois.

I had a close friend who was close to Lou. I passed the story on and my friend called Lou.

Henson got back to my friend and said No. If we had started after this player again we would have come off as "needy, pathetic, desperate, pitiful, we need him more than he needs us, he is calling all the shots, on and on". It could have created a difficult team dynamic.

The player went JC, commited to another BIG, and had a career that I would
describe as fair to partly cloudy. Still in the college game, well known.

If Nolley is in O and B next year, its because he is at Auburn. The only way this BU takes Nolley is if he calls us and says he is willing to commit immediately. Highly, highly unlikely. Lou was right then and BU will be right now.

What ever happened to elijah?

It is funny that JG didn't actively pursue the college transfers that we were heavily involved with during their high school recruitment.
Thomas: A&M - Clemson
Froling: SMU - Marquette
Whitt: Arkansas - SMU
Matthews: UK - Mich

Of course Bragg & Moore were each interested this past Spring with BU's staff, but we weren't overly excited about either

I think most would have been very pleased if Moore ended up here

I dont think most wanted him here, might of been 50/50. I for one didn't really care one way or the other the first time around, and didnt want him at all the 2nd time
I rather pleased with how it all turned out, we got TJL, and now our 17 class, And still after AYO win win maybe win to me

I'm definitely happier with where we are now, but with how much we used to struggle to get a PG I don't think we would have been upset getting Moore.

Couldn't be Charles Matthews, he said decades ago and Lou was the coach.

No idea who myself. I was only a kid and didn't follow the recruiting aspect but sounds like it might have been a local kid since his sister was in Champaign.

Moore would have been more in Groce’s mold as a lead guard type.

But no way Brad Underwood would prioritize a defensively limited 5’10” chucker who has to sit out a year when he knew he had 6’4” Mark Smith and assembled his staff to put the full court press on Ayo in the 2018 class.

Valtonen performed well against World competition. That for me, is a pretty damn good bar to evaluate. He has a nice skill set that fits in well with Underwood's system.

This is why I’d be excited for EV :thumb:

Most of Piper's words are behind pay walls. Mr. Scoop's tweet was a poorly worded shortened version of what Piper previously reported.

If you decide to pay for those... can you make that a source and share your latest for us thirsty fans here that are broke ;)

Doesn’t need to be everything all the time...but some stuff some time

Sure but all nolley did was commit and rescind that within 24 hours. He didn’t actually attend the other school for a year. This scenario is much more similar to why we didn’t take Elijah or Charles Matthews
