I know people will read into that saying the staff isn't excited, they're pessimistic, etc. But on the whole, the staff is pretty coy about visits yes? Tend to not show their hand?

That smile of Valtonen at practice told me a lot.

The whole 'spur of the moment' deal seems really odd when looking at how he ran his recruitment. That seemed measured and methodical. The fact is, we still finished outside his top 2, I'm not sure that warrants any further effort on our part. If he comes to us, wholly different thing.
Hopefully this might make sense, maybe we were in Nolley's final two. He just had us and GA on the same side of the bracket. It's like the two best teams actually meeting in the semifinal because of the way the bracket laid out. I would take Nolley if he came back to us, but I am excited about Elias and Ayo. Wouldn't have a problem moving on without Nolley.

I do find it interesting that there hasn't been a peep out of Nolley on twitter since he announced his decommitment from UGA. Maybe lying low and licking his embarrassment wounds of making a big fuss out of literally nothing. What comes next? Trying to make a big deal out of announcing again?

Probably heated discussions with his parents and any other advisors about what the next move will be.

Agree....probably wants to lay low for awhile. Still wish the best for him no matter where he decides to go. One thing I have learned out of this, is to not go off on some kid for not choosing us. Never know what could end up happening. Don't shoot yourself in the foot.

Am I the only one who would take Nolley over Valtonen 7 days a week and twice on sunday? I keep seeing illini media guys hyping up Valtonen as a "top 75 prospect", but where do they see that? Numerous recruiting sites have him outside of the top 200, maybe because he is European, but Nolley is in the top 100 on every major recruiting base. Plus he has an inch or 2 in height, and superior athleticism. Nolley is a much better fit because he will be able to play and guard the 1-4. I'd take his committment in a heartbeat, no more playing nice and trying to "stick it" to recruits, take the best you can get.

I'd take Nolley too but I don't think the disparity is as big as you make it out to be. Valtonen is a really good prospect.

I think Elias would be a good fit....maybe not as athletic as Nolley, but a better shooter and finds ways to score.

I could be reading the Valtonen situation wrong...but to me, the silence is a good thing. Kind of a quiet confidence. Maybe not wanting to overshadow Ayo's visit?

Scout said he would rate between 50-75, right where Nolley fits in. They don't rank Europeans. How often have you watched either of them play? Must be quite a bit to take such a spirited stance, it sure wasn't from Nolley's 3 YouTube videos

Valtonen performed well against World competition. That for me, is a pretty damn good bar to evaluate. He has a nice skill set that fits in well with Underwood's system.

Wow we "made good impression" on a recruit during a visit. What a fascinating take.

God this guy is a stooge.

Or maybe that's the info he was given from the staff/Valtonen? Do you want him to lie?

Or it could be he's hedging a bit after being wrong on Conditt and Nolley.

Where's Piper or Werner on this? Or Kedric? None of them have reported anything about Valtonen's visit yet.

Most of Piper's words are behind pay walls. Mr. Scoop's tweet was a poorly worded shortened version of what Piper previously reported.

Piper and Werner are typing Up something special for all the people who pay for the information.

Personally, I see this Valtonen recruitment and hype around him as being similar to Javon Pickett. ...that there were much better options than him that we struck out on (Goodwin, Scruggs, Poole, Eastern, Wilkes, Kigab, Justin Smith).

Didn't Pickett commit before all of those guys or at least most of them?

Pickett was gonna bring some of those guys with him, Tilmon too :)

I put no faith in any insider anymore, just gonna wait to see what happens

Yeah, insiders have been missing alot. Tired of getting my hopes up. Best thing to do is just see what happens, when it happens, it happens...everything else is speculation.

Some of you put too much stock into recruiting rankings. Most of those guys have no clue anyway. Let BU prove himself - Illinois will be just fine. He hasn't even coached a game yet. It's a hard sell in your first year with no games under the coaching staff's belt.

Home Run Hire!!!!
