With Elias having a good visit, Ayo this weekend, I see Nolley as an after thought. We are not begging anyone to play here.
Commit Elias, have a good weekend with Ayo, look for the commit, then wait and see on rest. We could wait till spring wouldn't hurt my feelings any. The Castleton thing was really a disappointment, alot of time spent for nothing. No worries hold the 3rd ride open, focus on Ayo, and play ball.;):illinois:

Nolley's a kid & a good basketball player, can't get butt hurt because we likely came in 3rd last week. My freshman in college lost his driver's license last week, it was something else the week before. Nolley got suckered into a good sales pitch & his own self imposed timeline, but we aren't at the signing date yet. Let's not mistake he probably doesn't want to come here, with we don't want him anyway. We have room for a couple of good wings, you take Nolley if he wants to come, you take THT if he wants to come, you take the Finn if he wants to come, but until we add a wing or likely 2 you take whoever you can get.

This! No Nolley for me.

In addition to Nolley being a very good player for us (hopefully, you never know, of course) I think if he asked to come back it would look petty of Illinois coaching staff to say no thanks. The implication being that "you blew your chance". So, no, I would still take him if I was BU. As someone else already posted, apparently his commitment was a spur of the moment emotional thing. I don't hold that against him. He's what 17 or 18. I did worse at that age.

If that's his mom, then what McColley said about her doesn't make a ton of sense.

I don't know what was said about his mom - i simply guessed that she looked old enough to be his mom and was seated next to him. :thumb:

Go Illini :chief:

This is really petty. Nolley is a kid, and one that is really good at basketball to boot. If, after his soul searching, he decided he wants to come to Illinois, take him in a heartbeat.

We are in the business of trying to get back to winning Big Ten Championships, not getting even with kids.

I don't know if I should post this, but he said,

"Official Visitor Elias Valtonen watched practice from the sidelines, with a beautiful woman who could very well have been his mother. Scandinavian women … wrowl."

The whole 'spur of the moment' deal seems really odd when looking at how he ran his recruitment. That seemed measured and methodical. The fact is, we still finished outside his top 2, I'm not sure that warrants any further effort on our part. If he comes to us, wholly different thing.

True. And upon further reflection it does seem odd. He had this whole bracket thing going that as you say was methodical. But what I got from the article Sublimebeast (sp?) posted about what his coach said, was that he made an emotional decision, maybe not spur of the moment, but this last decision did not seem so methodical. But again, kind of a moot point.

Nolley's Illini ship has sailed awhile ago.

I am not saying the staff will be spending time and money trying to re-recruit him, but do you really think that if he called them up and said "Look, Coach, I made a mistake and I want to play for you guys." that we would give him the cold shoulder?

This Nordic geography stuff is confusing. I don't know what to believe.

Methodical? Come on. Adding yet another devious attribute to a kid looking to have a little fun with his heyday.

Maybe he's just creative, intelligent and a bit impulsive...you know, like a kid.

That would be a shame, if that's the case. If Nolley WANTS to be an Illini, I bet Underwood would find room for him.

But....... HIGHLY doubt Nolley comes to C-U. Seems a lock for VT now after the whole Georgia debacle. You never know though.

To be clear, I didn't say don't take him, I simply said we don't have time to spend on someone that has told us no thanks. If, he asks to commit, we have room, I say yes everyday of the week. In our situation seems to me we have other plans, and I don't think the staff will wait for him. BU has said more than once, he's not going to BEG, anyone. Why should he? We are great program that is on the rise, either get on the train or kiss your chance good bye.

IMHO, if w get a verbal from Elias, they respectfully move on from Nolley.

Since when is methodical a "devious attribute"? :noidea:

I would be satisfied with Ayo and the Finn and hold the other scholarship until spring. It has been said frequently that there is always a drop out but it is tough to figure out who and why. Seems to me that all existing players have something to offer. After season will be more apparent due to playing time. I just don't see 10 players getting significant time in conference play. These guys will be in shape to play 30 mins and I don't see many blowouts. We don't have the coach who will pull out the hot hand.

Sure, if his is no longer a position of need, then you tell him "Sorry, you missed your chance and your spot has been filled." and move on. On the other hand, it seems like not that long ago that we were assured that we would take both THT and Nolley if the situation arose, so why not EV and Nolley if that situation arose? BU seems like the kind of guy who would love a team full of athletic SFs who can shoot and play all over the floor.

Not trying to get even. Just agreeing with BU. Only wanting kids that want to come here. He's not interested in Illini, time to move on.

I think what he’s saying is that isn’t going to happen.
