I don't know. I think many of them (if not most) are actually connected, but we have to think about how they are connected. They probably aren't getting info direct from players, their families, or the coaching staff. In all likelihood, our insiders' connections are some combination of DIA staff members, folks plugged into high school and AAU ball, or other similar folks who have some degree of separation from the principals.

In short, the issue isn't with those types of insiders sharing their information that turns out to be imperfect. The issue is with so many posters here who treat everything said insiders say as gospel without considering the likely sources and the path it took to reach this message board. The information we get may often be completely legitimate based on what the insider(s) have been told, but has probably already gone through one or more layers of playing telephone before it reaches us. It also likely comes overwhelmingly from pro-Illini sources and so will naturally tend to be somewhat biased in our favor.

At the end of the day, just don't get so hung up on whether these alleged insiders are 100% accurate. That's an impossible standard.
Dan should pin this. Spot on, IMO.

Garcia chose UNC. The announcement that was supposed to happen yesterday evening, not happening sort of sealed the deal that something was going on behind the scenes. Staff was confident, couple other people from programs in his recruitment were confident he was probably coming here. That’s recruiting…

In other news, lots of talk about Duren to Memphis. He is not eligible to reclass yet and if he wants to then he will have to take courses outside of Montverde to do so. It could happen and from what I am told, he is likely to re-class and wants to try and team up with Emoni somewhere. Memphis likely might be that spot for them.

Jalen Washington is also likely committing to UNC within the next couple days from what I was told. He is down to UNC, Stanford and Purdue. Looks like a commitment this weekend.

With Garcia going elsewhere. All eyes and efforts turn to Kofi, and we will see what happens.
I thought earlier in the week it was expect Kofi could make a decision this week. Have you heard any timetable? Personally I hope its soon either way so we can move on.

1990-June 30, 2021: Illinois painstakingly follows rules, other major CBB programs say "Lol have fun with your rules, loser, we're going 'cruitin."
July 1 - July 7, 2021: "Whoa, this NIL thing might level the playing field, Illinois looks to be at the leading edge of it!"
July 8, 2021-forever: Illinois painstakingly follows rules, other major CBB programs say "Lol have fun with your rules, loser, we're going 'cruitin."
Perfect! The idea that everything is now above board will never happen. Ever.

Think there’s a strong chance it might drag out a little bit. He’s currently at UAA in Atlanta…

Sadly, we never win these battles. This situation with Garcia just exposes the tip of the iceberg with where college basketball is headed now. All this does now is ensure the rich programs get richer with talent, kids will be sold on the prospects of how much money they can potentially make and eliminates the concept of a team. You can already see situations where kids will transfer simply because X player on his team made this and he asks, "why didn't I make that?" Transfers will be sold on well you can make that here and if they don't the coaches and Universities are not out a thing, the player is. In the end this will make a mess of college basketball.....

I think insiders could boost their credibility by using less definitive language. Saying "hearing Garcia to Illinois" or "there will be fireworks next week" are easy gaffes that can be hedged against by making less of a "promise".

What I will say is that it's all in good fun and we all know *deep down* that we aren't here for the quality of information, rather the quantity of it.
If you take those things as a promise, that's on you. No one said it was a 100% lock.

"Hearing Garcia to Illinois" is pretty much exactly that they said. That's what they were hearing at the time.

Always appreciate your insight. Hope you don't get run off the board like 0440 .

Brad should be meeting with Kofi and his people in the next two days. Also a side note-Kentucky staff is also in Atlanta at the AAU tournament. I’m sure they will somehow “run into” Kofi and his people. All eyes on a Kofi now. Gotta make a strong NIL offer. Like Indy said, could see this lasting a while.

The whole discussion of recruiting changed July 1. Depending on the player, the “fit” may be more about NIL for them than anything else. I know everyone thinks they can play in the NBA, but good lord if these guys make a couple $M going to the right school for 4 years they are set for life. Or at least they should be.
Good point
In terms of Kofi, NIL and Illinois
1. Kofi has two years of love and affection from the IlliniNation. Zero years of L and A from KY fans only the L and A from coach Antiguia.
2. Maybe #1 is a mute point but I believe Illinois bball staff, former players, current students and monied alumni are putting on a full court press to have Kofi come back to Illinois
3. The rumor Garcia is going to UNC may indicate the the big time effort Illinois et. al. is putting into keeping Kofi in Orange and Blue.

I thought it looked like snacks
Either Chin or Snacks would be in school gear at an AAU tourney. Given school colors, I think the odds are better that it's Chin. It doesn't really look like him to me though. 🤷🏼‍♀️

All I was told was the next two days but could be today. What me Indy or other insiders provide is what we hear and I realize it always doesn’t come true. Recruiting is crazy and these kids are in high school (some in college). A lot of people forget how an 18-20 year old can change their minds quickly, and now it’s even crazier with the nil situation. I will not always be right but the information is legitimate. I appreciate everyone on here who listens to me Indy TC and others, we do our best to give you guys solid information. This offseason has been tough but Brad is a great coach and I can tell you guys some of our upcoming classes of hs kids are going to be really good. Fingers crossed on the Kofi situation, I’ll do my best to keep everyone updated
