The only thing sillier than uncommittable offers are unsignable commitments
Eh, same thing happens in normal college admissions. It's uncommon, but students who get accepted somewhere and then get arrested or fail their last semester or something similarly egregious have offers rescinded. If there are "issues" that have since cropped up, I don't see that as being unreasonable to part ways. That doesn't even factor in the fact that his main recruiter is no longer with the team.

A team with a strong culture can also withstand a player or two that might not meet the normal mold of the person they want.
Not a guy with reported attitude and maturity issues. Dont need that in your locker room and taking up a scholarship. Also Epps completely destroyed him head to head in AAU play with the staff watching.

And you'll never hear the staff say anything about Bass because they can't comment on a recruit until they sign a LOI. So he can say he's committed all he wants but the staff has moved on. If he's so desirable why aren't other big schools going after him?

Pretty much says it all.

I've seen Chester Frazier repost content showcasing Sincere Harris & Jayden Epps. I've never seen him repost Reggie Bass content. Interpret that however you want, but I think it gives credence to the rumor that the staff isn't taking him

Question though whether the juice is worth the squeeze. Borderline 5 star probably worth the gamble. I don’t know if there are questions about his attitude per se but seems like Casey is in the “maybe” category despite still being too 50ish. Bass is a 3/4 star borderline top 100 at a position where we have 3 incoming frosh plus another 2022 commit (Harris). Not sure you take a chance on a kid of that skill level given where our program is at.
Yea I agree, its basically a cost benefit analysis. You're willingly to take that risk if they are very good and hope the culture that is established reigns the person in. The Patriots do this often. I'm not saying Bass is worth that but I'm saying that a strong established culture isn't going to be destroyed by one person. Oftentimes that person will get in line because everyone else is. My guess is they don't view him as important or worth the potential headache because they have plenty alternatives that are as good or better. I guess I should have been more verbose so it was clear what I meant. I wasn't trying to say we should take him.

Has this been communicated to Bass? If so, kinda wird he keeps posting about Illinois like he's jazzed to come here. Unless he's trying to win the staff back over? Strange, if true

Pretty sure he thinks if he keeps posting and pretending he is in the class it'll happen. Very weird behavior. IMO he likely has no other P5 options right now or you'd figure he'd hop off right away

I find it damn near impossible that the staff hasn't explicitly expressed that he won't play at Illinois. As discussed prior, they don't mess around. Especially Brad

Cant open this. Who or what is the conversation about.
I believe it was about Cameron Corhen, but the deletion of the tweet might be an indication of inaccurate info. The tweet basically said that Corhen and Whitmore would be taking official visits to Illinois (along with unspecified others) during the Nebraska football game. My guess is that Whitmore will be on an official visit, but Corhen will be here unofficially (since he already had an official visit on June 21, 2021).

Resets on August 1st, I believe. In theory he could take two officials.

I find it interesting that two of the recruits from the previous (Storr & Bass) don't seem to be nearly as good as the recent recruits of the current staff. Perhaps the previous staff wasn't as good as advertised...
I mean, when Storr and Bass first committed people on this site thought they were going to end up being top-50 type guys. Orange tinted glasses go a long way. And keep in mind the previous "not good as advertised" staff brought us Ayo, Kofi, and Curbelo. I love what the new staff is doing, but it is possible to praise the new staff and not sell the prior staff short.

Agreed. Frazier is great, but Antigua was great too.

FWIW I still really like Storr and I wish we could have held onto him.

What the hell is wrong with you people?? A few years ago we couldn't get a homeless person to commit, now all of a sudden you feel that you can run this young man away based on unsubstantiated rumors!!!! This kid has outplayed every 4 & 5 star player that he has played against except one. You should be kissing this kids a** for wanting to play for Illinois
