I've followed recruiting for so long that you used to have to subscribe to Bob Gibbons All-Star Report to have a glimpse into who was being recruited and how highly they were ranked. Don't let the nattering nabobs of negativity get to you Indy, I'm just glad you're in a position to tell us what the staff is hearing and do so. Even the staff gets blindsided at times by these kids decisions.

I’ve been following Illini recruiting for a while….I subscribed many years ago (mid and late 80s) to David Kaplan’s monthly newsletter regarding Illinois hoops and recruiting. It was literally a copy of a few sheets of info that had been typed out, and mailed every month USPS. True story.
This is back in the day when I would listen to Turpin and Tate on the WDWS sports open line every Saturday morning. For a couple years it was all about Deon Thomas, Bruce Pearl, the on-going investigation. Seemed like that whole thing went on for literally a couple years.
I worked at WLRW and my good buddy Dave Loane went for work to the Illinois/Iowa basketball game in Iowa City. The tension was so thick that he was literally nervous re his safety. They had countless police dedicated to Illini nation.
Good memories…..
What still remains true is my sincere dislike of all things Bruce Pearl.

I view recruiting information much as I do the weather forecast. That is to say, its nice to hear that its gonna be mid-80's with a cool breeze all the time, but if it happens to rain one day, oh well - its the weather. I really enjoy reading all the stuff that the people "in the know" post - but they are only really passing along what they hear at the time. Be they right or wrong, I am still going to root for this team and the kids that decide to play for the Illini. The ones that don't choose us I wish no ill will - but if we ever play them, I hope we show them on the court that they made the wrong decision.
