I kinda feel like the teams that are going to be successful are those that balance loading talent with maintaining some degree of consistency. With all this talk about culture, there have to be at least a few guys that carry the culture forward from one year to the next. I wonder at what point the loss of institutional knowledge outweighs the potential talent upgrade. Not saying there won't be churn, just that I think the successful teams will be those that strike a balance, rather than those that have a completely different team every year, or those that fail to bring in any improvements.

I think we're doing a great job of that so far btw. As of now there are plenty of familiar faces left who can help carry the culture forward for the new guys. Just a little leery of some of the talk of jettisoning guys like Hawkins or RJ for more talented players, as alluring as the talent out there is.

It used to be a thing where a school could block a player from transferring to another school, in conference. I know that's no longer a thing...but are there any recent examples of a player transferring from one B1G school to another?

How 'bout you? Have you got a place to stay? (Why should I care?)

I think the transfer rule is ending...it's a one time use... then you have to wait a year unless you get a waiver...I didn't like the DH in baseball at 1st either..

You're again comparing very different things and pretending they are the same. The one time transfer rule impacts way more. And across all sports. There's an article on Stack that talks about how high school quarterbacks are not being signed like they once were. Why? Because teams are just going after transfers instead. Mid major programs will be screwed even worse than before as players that show promise will immediately leave. And while it's nice to sit around and believe Illinois will benefit from the rule, will people still have that feeling in 2 years when RJ Melendez leads Kansas to the championship game to face Ty Rodgers, Skyy Clark and the Duke Blue Devils?

Some southern school just blocked a player...so it still is a thing...

So you're now using a straw man to win this argument?

Some hate it. Some don't mind it. Let's move on.

Wait a minute. So we should settle for jumpers then everytime? Should we do away with post ups altogether then?

What about exploiting a mismatch? How about when we go cold as a coal mine from
outside?…and we desperately need a score.

How about the Baylors, the Texas Techs, Houston’s, and the Virginias of the world that all generally guard slashers and straight line drives (uniquely) but exceedingly well. How about against a tough zone team. What if you can’t: beat ‘em down the court, or if they adjust take away the high post flash, and you simply
can’t shoot from 3pt land that day…

Sure, efficient execution, distort the zone,
ball reversal…blah, blah…but what if none of that works?

What else is there? How about a post up?
We don’t wanna go back the other way and be completely one dimensional towards the OTHER extreme do we? Because of some
recency bias of seeing Kofi mauled inside all year. Playing that way won us a regular season title…it works. I agree playing
fast paced and facing the basket more is appealing…but let’s not throw the baby out with the bath water.

Probably sounds that way, but I’m not trying to be snarky. I’m really not.
I just think a post up is a tool in the toolbox
you don’t wanna throw out. It’s part of basketball period. A lay up is the best shot in b-ball. But a contested post up
ain’t bad. And it’s sure as hell better than a contested J.

Therefore, we need a center who is able to shoot the three well, plays well on offense around the basket, rebounds extremely well, and passes well, whether in the post or on the perimeter!!!

This should be an easy find.
