I'm sure it's been hard on the coaching staffs, but this rule is a gigantic step in the right direction.
1. The NCAA talent level will increase dramatically (due to players staying in school because they are making real money), a plus for fans.
2. Do we really care about who we have lost, once they are gone it's over, I've not thought about Curbelo since his announcement. Now we root even harder for the Frazier's, Hill's, Giorgi's on our teams. A lot of the narrative and love surrounding Frazier was how he stuck it out even with everyone moving around him, which is a large factor in why he should get a banner.
3. It's been way over blown how much this actually effects the fan experience. I had just as much fun watching our team last year and will next year, as I've ever had watching our team.
4. Now I also get to watch kids who actually want to be at the school they are at instead of being handcuffed by the NCAA to stick it out. They finally have some power in this money hungry organization.
I agree with you on all accounts. I'm just saying there are improvements coming I hope. However, my overall point was, don't look at it as if you're helping the kids and question their loyalty. That is what it is. Look at it as if you're helping the program overall. What's best for the student is best for all. We have learned that if we lose a player, we can replace them and still be good. But when players decisions impact booster money... Its the program you're investing in not the player.

And I agree with you about Belo. I'm fine seeing the Dr. Jeckyll and Mr. Hyde act move east and am looking forward to the return of the flying Illini!

Can you guys start 2 new threads about whether or not Michigan or Illinois is more of a blue blood and about donating to schools? I would prefer the recruiting thread to actually have some recruiting information since I waste so much of my day at work hoping to see new information actually pertaining to recruiting.
Expecting to stay on topic on this board is wishful thinking

Wow, talk about picking nits. But ok, I’ll tell you this, if they aren’t a blue blood, they’re alot closer to being one than the beloved. You do realize they have been in the championship game twice in the last decade (and 5 times since 1989) while also making the E8 twice and the S16 three times?
You went back to take a screenshot and call out insiders. But I'm picking nits. Cool.

I was honestly asking, not being facetious. They have a great pedigree (as much as I hate to say it), but I wouldn't typically think of them as a traditional blue blood. If there's any blue blood type in the Big Ten, I'd think of Indiana first.

Michigan strikes me as being in the same camp as OSU: great at football which helps them be successful in basketball. Because of their success on the gridiron, their basketball team is overlooked. Whether that's deserved is up for debate.

I'm also a longtime lurker and have never posted until today. I am also a long time booster (graduated in the 80's). The second I found about the Illini Guardians, I donated and will continue to do so. We agree in one sense-I don't like all the change that's happened to college basketball either, but that's the new landscape. I still love March Madness. I still love going to games in Champaign. I still love following recruiting on this site. I still love the team and I still bleed orange & blue. You asked why boosters should continue to support the program? The answer is still the same for me. I want to see them win a national championship-whether it's with a four year player, a one and done, or a transfer. Now, your donations can be pooled with others to create NIL contracts with the student athletes. Your impact can be immediate and direct. You've made your choice and I've made mine. I will continue to support, even more so than I have in the past.
Only a few athletes will get hundreds of thousands of dollars. Kofi was a first team all american. I am happy that the other 99% get a chance to make a couple thousand so they can have a normal college experience. I have enjoyed doing Vimeo with DaMonte and Andre before last season.

As a successful business owner and BSEE MSEE grad my wife and I have donated thousands to EE dept but not much to Athletic Foundation since we live in SoCal and can't attend games. I did go to 2008 Rose Bowl. I missed the Final Four in St. Louis but am planning to attend the next one the Illini make!
