Yep and its refreshing our head coach is the definition of an Alpha (haven't had that in quite some time with our bball program) Ditto on our pretty awesome assistant coaches. I really like this staff and am confident that Coach Underwood & co will take us far.
GO ILLINI!

Am I the only one high on Luke Goode? I know he's no Bryce Hopkins and demands to start at the 2... But seriously I saw a lot from him last year... And with his size and shooting ability I think he's a got potential to be a 12 ppg+ scorer
Assuming you think Goode can get to 12PPG score by his senior year. I would hope RJ gets to 12-14 PPG for this coming season.

12 ppg may be unrealistic for Goode, as I doubt he will ever be more than our 3rd/4th option on offense. For reference, in 04/05 Deron only averaged 12.5 and Luther was our leading scorer at 15.6, in a year both of them were first team all BIG. And Shannon, who by all accounts is a grand slam portal addition and I am personally thrilled to get, only averaged a little more than 10 last year.

I think Goode will be a great player for us, I envision him being a better version of Grandi in that role. Just saying there should be realistic expectations for stats.

I hope and think RJ will score 12-14 PPG next year but it has nothing to do with how much Goode scores by his senior year.

Southern IL
I don’t think it’s recruiting related. More so to do with his business group
I was thinking the same thing when I put a little more thought into it. I do still wonder what Illinois has to do with it... "Be ready for this Summer" like what?

The Galloping Ghost

Washington, DC
Starting lineup for 2022-23 season

Skyy
RJ
Luke
TSJr
Coleman

Those who disagree, you are entitled to your opinions. Have heard nobody willing to put out a starting five, however, and that speaks volumes.
I must say, I feel called out by this post. It's time for me to no longer hide behind the fact that it's May 2nd and the season starts ... at a date we'll find out in August once the schedule is released or that we don't actually know what our full roster will look like yet. This is a time that calls for bold predictions and I'm willing to lay my reputation on the line. Our starters for this season will be:

1-Dylan
2-Dylan
3-Dylan
4-Dylan
5-Dylan

Never forget when BU said he thought Luke Goode would be a 1,500 point scorer.
Rj and Goode can score at all three levels... Inside, mid-range, and from 3... Rj better at driving to the basket but Luke may have better pull up... We underestimate what they showed in really limited time last year. Next year I agree Luke may have hard time getting 12 ppg but definitely he's gonna be anchor his last 2 years and I think his defense will be solid by then.

There are a lot of guys mentioned in this article that we have offered. The coaching staff really seem to be good at evaluating these kids!

Playing for All Ohio small forwards Devin Royal and Dailyn Swain each had their moments. Royal is a strong and tough forward who really fits today's game because of his ability to play multiple roles. He can post, he can defend many positions and he attacks the rim with toughness off the dribble. Royal can make some jump shots too and shows some real leadership ability out there. His recruitment is turning into a battle royal. Ohio State would love to keep him home, Michigan State is pushing hard, new Xavier coach Sean Miller ha made him a priority while Florida State, Illinois, Iowa State, Marquette, Penn State and several others are chasing.

When it comes to pull up jump shooters in the class of 2023, there aren't many better than four-star point guard Dai Dai Ames. A strong floor general who can shoot from deep, where Ames really shines is when he is putting the ball on the floor, taking a few hard dribbles and pulling up from between 15 and 18 feet to hit contested jumpers. His Mac Irvin Fire team went down in the game we watched but not without lack of effort on the offensive end on Ames' part.

I don’t share your enthusiasm about Luke as much. I think he’s gonna be a rotational type player most of his career. As an upperclassman I could see him getting 17-25 minutes off the bench. But I don’t see him ever slashing to the hoop because of his lack of foot speed. He’s 3 and D for me.

interesting that our previous recruits ( AJ Storr and Reggie Bass) are going to St. John's and CMU respectively. It felt like OA and Chin, at least OA, were top-notch recruiters at the time, but now it's like Illinois is operating on a totally different level. So were AJ and Reggie Bass evaluated too early or offered too early or what happened there?

I think it was always going to be a large class so you could take some fliers on kids that might develop. We're also just recruiting on a different level now as well.
