Am I the only one high on Luke Goode? I know he's no Bryce Hopkins and demands to start at the 2... But seriously I saw a lot from him last year... And with his size and shooting ability I think he's a got potential to be a 12 ppg+ scorer
So, I knew this was coming (insider here!). As soon as some people started saying that Goode wasn't going to start next year, wouldn't play the 2, is limited athletically, then I knew there would be those who felt like they needed to come to his defense.

None of those things said about Goode were meant to be derogatory to him, IMO. It was kind of like saying Alfonso Plummer can't play the 1 for us. AP is limited defensively.

He can still have an awesome role here; no one is saying he sucks.

IMO, I see the starting line up as Sky, Luke, RJ, CoHawk, & Dain today.

If others earn a start good for them. There is tons of minutes in the 2nd rotation, as it may be as good as the 1st.

interesting that our previous recruits ( AJ Storr and Reggie Bass) are going to St. John's and CMU respectively. It felt like OA and Chin, at least OA, were top-notch recruiters at the time, but now it's like Illinois is operating on a totally different level. So were AJ and Reggie Bass evaluated too early or offered too early or what happened there?
I never got the Reggie bass thing. He never seemed great. People were convincing themselves on 247 that he would get some huge rating bump. Same with storr. Blaming Covid as the reason they weren’t that highly ranked. Reggie was just a less talented harris imo.

I think a big part of it was that we weren’t quite a destination yet. Those guys, particularly Storr, aren’t bad players in the scheme of what Illinois has brought in in recent years. Even compared to say Goode and Podz.

Now we are on another level and will think twice about those types of guys.

As to lineups. In my mind, the only absolute certain starter is Shannon. It's a dog fight at every other spot. Yes, I expect Skyy to come out on top and I have no doubt he was promised a starting role. But he'll be pressed every day by Epps and could very well overtake him. I am reminded a bit about Larry Smith coming with rave reviews and Bardo coming out on top for a variety of reasons.

I'd still like an experience point but with Shannon I'm less concerned. I just think he brings a level of calmness to a young team. Hopefully it plays out that way.

Well, at least you tried. First one, NO. Other three ... we don't have these guys yet. And who said you could have options?
0440 has lost all his patience with posters after taking that break. People like you are why. Let's just get this out of the way now: About 30 people have put out lineups, yours is wrong, 0440 gets his from the coaching staff so his is right.

Everyone continue on as usual now.

12 ppg may be unrealistic for Goode, as I doubt he will ever be more than our 3rd/4th option on offense. For reference, in 04/05 Deron only averaged 12.5 and Luther was our leading scorer at 15.6, in a year both of them were first team all BIG. And Shannon, who by all accounts is a grand slam portal addition and I am personally thrilled to get, only averaged a little more than 10 last year.

I think Goode will be a great player for us, I envision him being a better version of Grandi in that role. Just saying there should be realistic expectations for stats.
See I know Hawk played well but I don't want him jacking more threes unless he is a better shooter. Unless he can hit threes at a much higher rate then while impact to our success it may be in other ways than scoring at a high rate. I think as a shooter and scorer TSJ, RJ, Goode, and our guards will likely score at a high rate per minute than Coleman going forward. We need Coleman to play great D, hit the boards, get put backs, and impact with hustle plays like he did down the stretch last season. If he can prove he can hit threes then he may put up more efficient numbers and I hope he does but that's not what we need most from him.

Maybe OA and Chin weren't as engaged considering they were heading out..
