Brad seems to recruit tough smash mouth basketball players. Regardless of their size (Trent was only 6'1) they play tough defense, are physical in the lane, hustle for every loose ball, and sacrifice their bodies for the team. See DaMonte, Kofi, Ayo, Luke, RJ, Jake, Giorgi etc.

Players who care more about their statistics than the team winning tend to transfer out..

Now that Brad can pick and choose more you see him targeting and getting players like Ty Rogers and Amani Hansberry

Illini are going beast mode!

Trent and DaMonte were Groce recruits. Granted, they could've gone elsewhere after Groce was canned.

247 updated their 2024 rankings:

27 James Brown
58 Morez Johnson
81 Nojus Indrusaitis
150 ZZ Clark

ZZ being that low is criminal. There's just no way you can watch him and say he's 150.

MJ too. That guy just oozes with talent and potential. You guys were doing comps earlier--maybe A Payne from MSU (RIP)?

Am I missing something here??? Can someone please tell me how in the hell that M J fell 18 spots and JB gained 5 ?????
Not at all concerned with the ratings. Trust the staff. Michigan had higher rated classes and has lost five in a row. Seems Duke lost the last matchup. Really believe they have more to do with NBA potential that college value.

The clips we've seen of him recently from OTE have been encouraging but I don't necessarily think the ranking is too low. The insiders on this page earlier this year indicated he was more of a mid to low 100's type of player. He is just now going into his Junior year, so he has plenty of time to rise in those rankings, especially on a high profile team like OTE. I always think it's better to be a grower and not a shower... You tend to impress those NL a bit more... right Pru? Those NLs probably knew nothing about Hansberry last Spring and now it's all they talk about

Well, every recruit has time to rise in the rankings. I’m not sure why zz is any different and entitled to rise more because he signed with us. However, who cares if he is 100-150 if he fits into the program and what we need. We don’t *need* 13 top 50 players to be very successful.

Well when you have 149 players ahead of you, some of those players tend to drop off. Mix that with playing well and you move up a bunch. Just a lot more runway to move up.

Most of these high players ranked are ranked because they have garnered multiregional attention. ZZ playing for OTE is going to get a lot more people to see him play which, if he plays well, would bump him in the rankings a lot more than signing with us.

That being said, you're right rankings don't matter too much. ZZ has a great attitude and wants to play here, oh and is good at basketball.

Ranking is also based on league potential. /s
