And he does that by winning games. Would Hunter help us win games? If he believes the answer to he yes, then he would be doing the program a disservice by not at least inquiring about his interest.

I still think this take by @illini0440 is just an April Fool's joke given Dickinson's prior comments about Illinois.

But there are plenty of great players with whom to win games. You don't necessarily have to choose the one that your fans have hated for 3 years.

DIA's job is to put buts in seats. They do that by hiring coaches that win. It's all in service of driving revenue and the brand. Winning is a HUGE piece of that but not the only piece.

That goes away real quick with the first 20 point, 10 rebound game. Cubs fans grew to love Jim Edmonds. If the other players like him, the fans will just have to get over it. A tournament run would ease a lot of hurt feelings. Make it happen, Brad.

I cite you Rodman, Dennis. He was A #1 on the most hated by the fans list(maybe Bill Laimbeer). When he became a Bull, he was the toast of the town. If HD was legitimately open to coming here....I'd sign up for his 20/10 and defensive presence immediately.

Hunter did that for scUM and even their fans got tired of his mouth and antics.

On a far lesser scale but more recent, Patrick Beverly comes to mind. You hate him when he is on the other team, you love him when he is on your team.

He didn’t go unnoticed. Harv Schmidt REALLY wanted him at Illinois, but coming from a a tiny HS he thought jump to Big 10 was too much. Turned out well for him. Might have saved Harv if he’d been an Illini.

Jack also had a late growth spurt in and after high school. He went from being a pretty good guard to a highly skilled center.

He grew up in Wichert, a tiny rural farming community east of St. Anne. Home to some of the best sweet corn.

I recall he might have preferred the small campus, but he was not scared of Bi Ten competition. He was sold on Wesleyan.
