He is only going if he gets guaranteed money. Might have been told he's not so go back to school, play off the ball and work on the right hand for next year. No actual knowledge is that has happened but that could be a scenario I could see play out.
Agree. Pretty darned critical for his 2024 draft stock. And once he puts in the work this off-season, TSJ needs 8-12 more of the UCLA type games in the upcoming season.

I don’t want to be that guy, but has there ever been a player who was as good a week after he left us as he was a week before we heard he might be leaving? Has there ever been a player who didn’t significantly improve in the week after he committed to play for us?

does a bear deuce in the woods?

are Larry Bird's growth plates wide open, regardless of shoes/no shoes?

it's all ball bearings these days

Always be that guy. The world needs more of those guys.

I agree with that. I also feel TSJ needs to improve his ability to pass off the dribble while driving and players help out. He is great attacking the hoop but when guys help out on D he needs to be able to hit the open man fir a better look without turning it over.

Like Hawkins, not having a true PG really hurt him. Man if we can get a "🐅" at PG, just imagine what it could unlock in TSJ & Hawkins.

I think, in terms of skill sets, it was. But then we lost our PG and had chemistry issues. Our roster last season was fantastic but the results were less than the sum of the parts.
Maybe. Last year people were stoked about the versatility and the “interchangeable parts “ we’d have with long athletes like Coleman, Mayer, RJ, etc. I get that but I also think players have to have defined roles too.

Notated what though, you gotta have a PG.

TSJ is way too old for another year of school for this "work on this" stuff to improve his draft potential. He can score 1,000 points a game and won't improve his NBA stock because he'll be like 24 years old. Just saying that rather bluntly. Maybe he likes school and feels like he can make more with NIL, which would be the only reason to come back.

That did cause more turnovers but I not referring to that. I am just to when he drove hard. I think him attacking what hurt more was not hitting open threes. If they could hit them at a higher rate then defenders wouldn't help out nearly as often. That said it appeared when he put his head down and drove he was either going to score, get fouled, or turn it over. He didn't pass it much when he put his head down. If could do that more efficiently then wow.

You have to have perimeter ballhandling and rim protection that are normally provided by true point guards and centers.

Versatile players CAN provide those things. Hawkins is a solid rim protector despite not being a chained-to-the-hoop 5, for instance. But you've gotta have those traits in the team or you become very easy to exploit.

We were a thin ballhandling team that became a deficient ballhandling team without Clark, then a disastrous ballhandling team with Epps taken out of the rotation. Neither of those guys were A+'s to begin with and then we eventually lost both of them and were relying on guys like Hawkins and Mayer to initiate offense. Disaster.

Major additions absolutely necessary in that area. Two guys who are true lead guards would be ideal, borderline necessary if reports about Moretti are true.

I agree teams definitely need a defined PG. The 2-4 spots can be interchangeable, and maybe the 5 as long as you have adequate paint defense.

Although the 2 can't really be interchangeable with anything cause that's solely Goode's role.

You mean like people saying that Podz wasn't that good, he was just playing in a weak mid-major conference? Domask coming from a weak mid-major conference is the answer to our problems?
Nope, never i've never seen it here.

I like RJ but I think it is certainly an upgrade. Domask led SIU in Pts. Reb, and assist while being 1st team all conference. I think sometimes just because you may be higher rated out of high school or from a power 5 that means they are better. It may usually but not if the guys all conference.
From a potential standpoint, I think RJ has a higher ceiling while Domask has clearly had better production. No denying that. Really felt like RJ was coming on and was going to be a big producer. But he's gone & I hope Domask does well.

Taking what you said into account you should also realize that he was the main focus of every team they played. Their number one goal was to stop him, drawing their best defenders and sometimes double teamed. He still put up good numbers. He is a very good pickup for the Illini.
Never said he wasn't a good pick-up. Competition level night in and night out in the MVC is nowhere near B1G.

Yeah not a bad comp at all really. Domansk was more productive at a higher level, but it's that same sort of swiss army knife of a game.
Yeah, I don’t mind it overall. Likely Grandison a better defender and a little longer, while Domask brings more of a ball-handling and playmaking aspect.

I too expected more from RJ this year. That being said often what is viewed as potential are the main athletic traits like jumping, speed, strength etc. But I've known some elite athletes as far those main traits but they were not elite hoopers. Hand eye coordination, agilty, general coordination like the ability to use both hands are often harder to notice. I am not sure if RJ is at that level or not compared to Domask in those aspects. RJ certainly is faster and jump higher but that may not mean he has a higher ceiling. He may but Domask is very good and I wish RJ the best.
