Was talking about the guys so far this year. But if you want to use that example, Grandy barely saw the floor
Well in fairness, I don’t think it was about going to a better program for any of the guys. It was about finding a situation that they felt was better for them. And they’ve all signed with P6 schools. Plus Lieb, Serven and Warden haven’t signed anywhere yet have they? 😁

No way. Nunn was a high level contributor in his last season with us and would have continued being a stud at Illinois had he not left. His stats at Oakland were as predicted. Nobody saw this coming from Podz within just one season.
Everything you’re saying is true. But Kendrick Nunn was averaging 20 mpg for the Miami heat in the playoffs, Podz is TBD at a high level. Not trying to take anything away from him or WCC but Ifykyk

On another note word is big zoom meeting with Milton, BU, Whitman, and big boosters. This week.

About a week or so ago, one of our insiders told us RJ was going to Georgia ( sorry, can’t remember which one ). Someone asked about a potential landing spot for Melendez and the insider showed us Georgia Bulldog flag. More times than not, we should believe these insiders. Nice to get the info from them. Really drives me nuts when you guys or gals go quiet. If it’s slow, can’t you just make things up?

quality > quantity

Say what you want about some of these guys transferring out, but not a single one has gone to an equal or better program. Not even close to be honest
What's telling to me is that he had interest from programs that were equal or better and instead chose Georgia anyway. Some may see this as him looking for an opportunity to shine and be a primary option, but to me it speaks to not being an alpha and a lack of self confidence.

Seeing that Melendez signed with Georgia today really makes me sad. Does anybody know for sure his reason for leaving the way the coach stood by him and praised him and stuck with him. It sure could not have been about playing time. So why did he leave?

Just because a team shows interest doesn't mean they'll actually offer. Some of the better schools you're thinking of may not have even let RJ commit if he wanted.

He’s going to be making less at Georgia than he was here last year …
In general - once they enter the portal - is it expected that the player will move on? I know Kofi came back but it seems like player and coaches pretty much move on...

Embarrassed to admit I thought talent wise at least, RJ after his Freshman year could be NBA talent after 3 maybe 4 years here. Even with a slow start this year I stayed with him and that forecast. Have to admit I may not be as smart as I look. I am going to go back to commenting about WBB. After two wives, many girlfriends, 4 daughters and several thousand women employees over the years I still don't understand women. However I did say they would have a great season this year and Bostic would again be near the top in the B1G in rebounding. So don't ask me about MBB. Good luck RJ.
No embarrassment. You're an anonymous message board poster. (unless your actual last name is Mojoman).

On the other hand, Wasserman had RJ at 37 in his 2023 mock draft. He gets paid for this stuff.

I'm not sure what the point of this is. If you're suggesting that they aren't huge losses, I'd largely concur, although the drop from Illinois to Georgia and Georgetown isn't huge. I think there's a lot to be said for some continuity so many players will have a higher value in their current program than to where they are going.

That said, we have to pick the right kids and we have to coach them up and get them to succeed. We're absolutely better off if we can get the right guys in as freshmen and coach them until they're seniors.

That's a head scratcher , to say the least......I had high hopes for R J .........now he's just another college BB player , to me....

Probably best for all parties for him to move on ......This reinforce's my statement that going forward I will limit my attachment to the MBB players until they attend at least 3 years at UI......................This wild , wild west scenario is gonna be hard for me to get used to as I have fond memories of a player being recruited , then graduating from the University of Illinois after 3-4 years of donning the O & B............

I imagine this will cause , as has been speculated before in one of the many threads , some coaches to retire earlier than in the past.....BU has stated many times the challenges to restocking a roster with 5-8 new players each year........

I am all for the players to get paid , but the rush for the $$$ has caused a pullback by this old fart........Scorecards are needed to see who's playing from game to game .......I know that's an exaggeration of what is really happening , but maybe one day we will see a MBB player play the first half for one team and then trade jersey's and play for the other team in the second half......

Moderation seems to be needed before it gets totally out of hand..........JMHO

It just dawned on me that we have a HS recruit that has been committed to the Illini longer than some of the Illini players that are transferring out...........That is numbing my already fragile little mind.....................
