The radio silence is not bad at all. What needed to be said has been said, just wait and see what happens
While I am impressed with the transfer class Underwood has gathered, I would like to know if this his go forward strategy. I know he loves 22 year olds vs 18 year olds, but does he plan to recruit sophomores or juniors via the portal. It seems as if he is really in love with “get old and stay old.”

Anyone remember the old BigTen.org message boards? They were unregulated and a very hot mess, but I loved that each team had a dedicated board on one website. It was very primitive by modern standards.
Kinda, sorta and I might have my message boards mixed up but I think even the Illini ones from late nineties are on par with the current Mizzou boards. Illini fans are lucky to have the boards we have.

And last season was “positionless basketball” and whatever early season defense he wanted to run that couldn’t be taught. Go older. Reload. Don’t fall in love with any player below the age of 21 because they won’t last too long in this new age.

LOL.

I'll remain cautiously optimistic as I generally am with our teams.

But nothing "needed to said". I get that people enjoy all the insider chatter. But let's not fool ourselves. It does nothing to further the program which is the only need I have.

Personal story since wth.

Townie, 1970s to 1990s. Illinek and Maroon. Paid 25 cents to see Mike Wells get clocked by Sonny Sixkiller.

Brother was classmates with Andy Moeller and probably helped form Moeller’s hatred of all things Illini.

Regular with 4 digit member number at Illiini Inn in the 80s.

Left for good - no employment - in 1992; Seattle area since. Remained loyal to the Orange and Blue.

This board doesn't "further the program", but I enjoy knowing things before they hit the news and having a place to discuss Illini basketball. So, I'll keep reading what the insiders know. Also, they seem to be correct almost all the time if were patient enough to wait.

The fact of the matter is, the teams who are still successful are the teams who have played together and supplemented a solid roster with mercenaries.

One could argue that’s the mold Brad is working with, but just missed last year because the pieces didn’t mesh and some other things didn’t go according to plan, such as Goode getting hurt and RJ shooting like me.

Now, we CAN bring back TS, CH, DD, LG, SH and TR, all of whom played meaningful minutes together and supplement that core with Domask, Harmon, Dennis and Guerrier.

That’s a whole lot better than bringing back CH, LG, RM and supplementing them with 4 freshmen (technically 5 with DD lack of experience) plus DD, MM and TS.

I don’t think anyone would argue the first situation is markedly better than the second. And where Hansberry, DGL and Moretti fit into the first scenario is Brad’s job to figure out.

Agree. I think DGL could already contribute offensively and needs to be in rotation. Will need to be selective about match ups on D, but he appears he can create his own issues for the other team. If he is not a head case he can be a player down the road. If he sits all year he is gone.

His father spoke on why he thinks Illinois is the place that can get the most out of him.

“They see him as a vital piece to the future of Illinois basketball. They’re going to be able to use him as a point guard and a combo guard. I think in tough situations, like at the end of the shot clock, he’s a guy they’re going to depend on to make plays. They understand what type of guard he is,” Gibbs said. “The plan they have for him is exactly what we want. Uptempo. Coach Underwood is going to open up the floor and let you do what you need to do. He’s not trying to deter him from what he does best. It really boils down to going somewhere that fits your game. I think playing right away is important. They didn’t say: ‘Oh, he’ll play right away.’ But they know what type of competitor he is, so they know he’s going to play right away — not because they say it but because he’ll earn it. They want him to come on campus and be ready to go next year.

“I think it’s a really, really good situation for Drayvn.”

I have a source who is in the subscription message board business and he just told me his understanding is that all of the interest from other programs has muddied the once clear waters with the RayJ situation. He went on to add that Hawkins was currently looking like a coin flip to stay or go and TSJ was 30-50% to stay. What I heard plus the substantive radio silence here makes me think things aren’t the lock they were once believed to be. I’ll be happy to eat my hat if things get locked down soon. But man I’m not feeling comfy over here.
Do you expect the insiders to post reaffirming messages every 20 minutes?

Well explained! Also add that Illinois is well positioned to benefit from NIL.
Bluebloods always got the top tier talent but will now see these players leave for next tier when things aren't ideal for them. They can and will backfill with new freshmen and transfers. Lower Tier Power 5s and mid-majors will look for next level programs and NIL.

Look at the last 3 years, Illinois has vastly benefitted from transfers. All their transfers went to a lower level program or received less PT/stats than at Illinois. Podz is the one that is our miss, but I think that Santa Clara was a better situation for him considering what we knew at the time.
