What else is everyone supposed to talk about when nothing else is happening?

Isn't it a good thing that the forum is active? --shows there's a lot of interest in the program.

Anyone who's been here in past offseasons will tell you the relevance of the conversation drops, and I suspect sometimes Dan even puts out a 'Gone Fishing' sign or something equivalent. People here are often alums that share stories when the opportunity pops up. Gives the place some character, no?

It looks like we are in a holding pattern until the 31st. All Brad and the staff can do is have contingency plans if the three players we are waiting on stay in the draft or not. Indy and the other insiders can only give us what they know, Its going to be another circus once that date passes and teams/players are scrambling for a place to land.
Exactly ...the portal transfers
pending ... activity will pickup once the NBA time limit expires.

If everyone is back at this point and we get a PG, the depth of the Illini will be more than 2001. Hawk, TJ, PG, Quincy, Domask/Rodgers. Bench Domask/Rodgers, Goode, Harris, Harman, Dain and Hansberry. Thats 11 deep and I hope we go 11 deep as we should not have any player with over 30 minutes a game. We will run and run to wear teams down.
Unfortunately with all of that depth, we would lose multiple players the following season to the portal because they are not getting enough playing time/not getting enough NIL. I hate the new NCAA and what is allowed.

My original and second comments were jokes. If I’m on here I’m obviously on board with it b/c that’s what it is at least 50% of the time.

This type of scenario gets thrown out every summer about Illinois and in most every other program. Never happens. When you get to crunch time games down the stretch, most all coaches go down to 7-8 guys.

Yup. In addition, he’s assuming we get our PG and both guys stay (I’d be overjoyed if we get two of the 3). Then add in the possibility of injury.

I say that a great PG is more important than either Hawkins or Shannon.

I also think that DGL should be the backup so that he will see himself getting the reins the following year and actually stay. Edit (Maybe stay)

Agree. I think DGL could already contribute offensively and needs to be in rotation. Will need to be selective about match ups on D, but he appears he can create his own issues for the other team. If he is not a head case he can be a player down the road. If he sits all year he is gone.

His father spoke on why he thinks Illinois is the place that can get the most out of him.

“They see him as a vital piece to the future of Illinois basketball. They’re going to be able to use him as a point guard and a combo guard. I think in tough situations, like at the end of the shot clock, he’s a guy they’re going to depend on to make plays. They understand what type of guard he is,” Gibbs said. “The plan they have for him is exactly what we want. Uptempo. Coach Underwood is going to open up the floor and let you do what you need to do. He’s not trying to deter him from what he does best. It really boils down to going somewhere that fits your game. I think playing right away is important. They didn’t say: ‘Oh, he’ll play right away.’ But they know what type of competitor he is, so they know he’s going to play right away — not because they say it but because he’ll earn it. They want him to come on campus and be ready to go next year.

“I think it’s a really, really good situation for Drayvn.”

Omar Payne transfers to UCF…Hopefully his 4th college is the charm.

What’s funny is this happened a week ago, but you’re the first I’ve seen post it. I almost did a few days ago, but was afraid it might be. — in the old Brumby Illiniboard parlance — “German.”

Let's see what he does against 22 and 23 year old men instead of other 17 year olds.

If he needs to be in the rotation as a freshman in order to stay...

I don't get these kinds of posts so I'm genuinely curious. Does it make you feel better to post this? Are you looking for some sort of response?

The few people on this board who have essentially proven to be connected to the program have continuously said there's nothing to worry about. Who are you hearing these rumors from?
Oh for the good old days when we would first read an article in October about the freshmen and outlook for the upcoming season.

9 times out of 10 I enjoy the food sidebars and restaurant recommendations. But this thread might have ruined cottage cheese for me. 😉
So I guess I'd better not write a post about Limburger cheese? OK.
