If you're at the bottom part of the draft(ie you have a really strong team)....why not take a flier on a 6'10" kid with a great skill set, then see if you can develop him?
Because we are talking about the best 60 or so newcomers in the entire world and there are others with size and skill that can shoot it much better. These mocks are just guesses and there are always young players from Europe and elsewhere not on these mocks that are selected and not mentioned by writers working on websites and not for NBA teams. l heard LaTulip bring up recently international players muck things up. Unfortunately the last Illini drafted as highly as expected was Meyers and I feel think that will continue to occur until we have another lottery pick type of talent. If you look at mocks im sure they all vary and have a 100 or more guys possibly being drafted in the second round depending on who you look at. Getting good input and taking the sure thing may not be a bad idea. Ask Oscar or Timme.

I remember when Jerry Krause drafted Elton Brand #1 and said it was because he had big hands.

Drafting somebody who can't score 15 ppg in college and expecting him to thrive in NBA is crazy.

Coleman is not a Scotty Pippen or Dennis Rodman playing at AIA school with freak ability/athleticism. He is a very mobile 6'10" who has an erratic 3 point shot, does not like to play in paint, good handles but turns the ball over too much trying to make the spectacular pass and plays good perimeter defense. That is not NBA ready.

Coleman has been at Illinois 3 years so if he had superstar potential he would have forced his way into starting lineup as 30 mpg player as an underclassman instead having to wait till he was JR.

JMO - he has a way to develop. If he comes back he can play 35 mpg and improve his offensive game. G-league is brutal and pays a lot less.
Devin Booker didn’t average 15ppg at UK and he’s doing just fine in thr NBA

I really want Shannon back because I don't think you can find a replacement at this point(Raequan Battle would have my choice). There just aren't many wings of us caliber available though maybe I'm missing someone but portal is closing soon.

I'm pretty indifferent on Hawk. If they get RayJ or another similarly talented PG and Shannon comes back they will be loaded with guys that can score with RayJ, Shannon, Harmon, and Domask all leading their team in scoring last season. Plus you have Goode, Rodgers, and Guerrier.

I think the Illini need another 5 more than anything and insiders say Hawkins doesn't want to play the 5 which is an issue because they have plenty of people capable of playing the 4 and no rim protection(also Dainja is better suited for a part time role imo). Guerrier and Hansberry are both 4's and Rodgers is perfectly capable of playing while Domask and Goode have enough size to play small ball 4 since the illini have good length throughout the lineup playing some small ball lineups could be nasty.
RaeQuan to West Virginia? Maybe he'll reconsider.

So… are we not 110% on RayJ like we were five days ago? And it seems like CoHawk isn’t planning on coming back?

I'm surprised Booker didn't average 15ppg, but more generally, I think it's easy to over estimate what even really good college players can average over a full season, and not only in terms of scoring.

For whatever reason, Franz Wagner came to mind as a recent pick who didn't score that much in college, but that no one would regret having on their NBA team.

That led me to skim the top 10 picks in his draft. Only 7 of the 10 went to college. Of those 7, I only 2 managed to exceed the 15ppg bar.

I’m 110% sure we’ve collectively said at least 110 times to not worry about RayJ
