ity really blows my mind that a guy has a chance to play 100 miles from home , and goes 1400 miles west to Salt Lake City. and 90% of his away games will be even further away

makes no sense to me.
me? I would love to have played that close to home for family and friends

If that was the case which would allow us to pick and choose, our football program and basketball program would be top 10 year in and year out. Sadly, that's not the case....as evidenced by our roster makeup.

Reasonable expectation, IMO. Compares to what Michigan, Ark, and UCLA have done in the past 6-7 years as examples.
Good examples. Also, it's not unreasonable to expect multiple s16's per decade just based on our own history.

In fact every coach who has stayed here at least 9 years (Combes, Henson, Weber), has gone to multiple s16's in their first 9 seasons. BU is entering his 7th season so he still has three more chances to keep that trend alive.

Here is how sweet 16s breakout by decade since 1980.

1980s - 4 s16's
1990s - Pearl sanctions detonated the program
2000s - 4 s16's (2 different coaches)
2010s - Poor leadership detonated the program
2020s - No excuses. Time to get back to our true form.

Might be in the minority but i wouldn’t mind Caleb love at all he’s a proven guard, it’s not guaranteed that Ray J would make a huge leap in the BIG

Yeah, I try not to wade into the meta stuff on message boards but this is pretty much my feeling as well. I enjoy reading and keeping up on rumors, but at the end of the day that's all they are. It reaches a certain point where if you take them too seriously that's kinda on you.
But what am I supposed to do with the rayj tattoo I got... Who do I blame?

Granted it doesn't look half as bad as the Cliff Alexander tattoo I have. 🤕

Jim Carrey What GIF by Laff

Just so you know no one’s trying to be the first to drop a scoop or make 💩 just to be an insider. The 4 or 5 of us on here that do drip stuff just do it because we love the Illini and like letting Illini nation know what we know(for the most part). Idk why people are mad at us lol. Be mad at the staff for not locking this thing up a month ago
Why is it that we have to continuously have this same conversation over, and over, and over? It’s like people have never been wrong in their life or know anyone that has.

As always, thanks to those that are more in the know than most of us. That’s the stuff that keeps most of us coming back. You are our Illini hit we need daily.

Until the next time people lash out…

Harry Combes is irrelevant to the discussion. He coached at a time before expansion when only one team per conference made the tournament.

Henson did it twice, but the first was was with 48 teams. We won only 1 game to get to the S16, then lost to K-State.

Weber did it his first three, but with Self's players.

So you really don't have a point.

People on here need to really stop thinking they deserve info and that stuff can’t change with any situation. None of us deserve or are entitled to anything. Stuffs going to change. Move on with life and find another hobby that won’t make you so mad.

In a month we will have a point guard and half the people on here will be saying he’s better than Ray J and we are lucky we didn’t get him.
wait, so you are saying that RayJ is NOT Michael Jordan re-incarnate or heck maybe even better than lebron in his prime?

That's what I find so odd about this narrative that he was told to come back to school to be the man, when it's clear that he would be at best a role player in the NBA. Wouldn't it make more sense to show that he can be a facilitator on a team with better players than him?
And to be clear - didn’t he already show he can be “the man” at Toledo- I mean he just showed he can be the teams best player and shoot whenever he wants - why would someone want to see that on a bad Utah team next year? That can’t be the reason

Maybe it breaks down like this or similar? --

Toledo - 50k NIL, can be Mr. Everythying
Utah - 300k NIL, can also be Mr. Everything here as well
Illinois - 600k NIL, would be 3rd/4th scoring option

NBA scout/organization feedback is invest in your future (rather than take the bigger NIL *right now*) and go to Utah.

Purely hypothetical, but if this is what his options are maybe he thinks it makes sense?
What’s more disappointing is that we would let a 3rd or 4th option drag this out and play us.

My point is that s16's are not uncommon at Illinois. Prove me wrong.

Not sure if LVille has heard the same but sounds like either RayJ or someone from his camp gave the Illini staff a verbal commitment on his visit? But that he still wanted to go through the process of visits. Not sure what changed after that.

Also, Henson did it four times and Weber only did it his first two.
