Especailly if TSJ and Hawk are waiting for BU to land a experienced PG prior to the NBA deadline.

The only way you get that structure is for the schools to pay the athletes and make them employees. NIL is nothing more than endorsement deals, which the Supreme Court has ruled cannot be restricted under the current model. There’s no cap on what any player can make and a company can, if it decided, pay a player to do nothing.

If, however, a player was a paid employee, the University could, if it so choose, tell the player a certain endorsement is a conflict of interest and tell him or her it’s either the endorsement or playing on the team. Likely, the player wouldn’t get the endorsement without being on the team, so the “choice” is obvious. But for now, the NIL ball is in the players’ court.

Although NIL is still fairly new, Underwood has a stuff-ton of recruiting experience. And I have no doubt that he knows when to draw the line. Few begrudge a kid (or his camp) for trying to squeeze out a bit more. But enough is enough. Put him on the clock and escalate Plan B. If we can lock down Collins, do it.

I remember CoHawk saying something like “I’ve been recruiting players” in a recent interview. It seemed like he was referring to RayJ and I thought at the time he sounded a little perturbed that Dennis was carrying this on so long. Wonder if at this point he wouldn’t prefer Yuri.

Great insight Indy! This is interesting, hearing about the ins and outs of how this stuff works through the media, even though I already knew but maybe some people on this board don’t know how that stuff works so thank you for sharing, appreciate it! :cool:

I suspect Coaches typically think it is since they’re not the ones paying it.

This would surprise me since (if I’m remembering correctly) Yuri said earlier in the off-season publicly he won’t transfer. Plus, if he was on the table, I have to think he’d be Plan A over RayJ.

I agree. 100%

I think for me it’s being once bitten(Miller starting every game as a freshman and still moving on) and then twice Skyy. (who had a track record of doing that very thing)

It’s a different kid; and every situation is different of course. But at a certain point…either you wanna be here or ya don’t.…whether it’s RayJ or it’s Brad Underwood.

Other people with a “seat at the table” say it’s truly not about money so… if it was about money wouldn’t he just come to Illinois? That part is clear we check the box the most of all the options, yet he appears to be headed elsewhere…
