that's my understanding too (saw it in The Athletic awhile ago). so, 2nd round picks in the 30s (up to ~38) get guaranteed contracts. too lazy to look it up, sorry (not sorry, lol)

that said, doubtful that a GM picking 38 or under is willing to guarantee that he'll take a kid.
Caleb Houstan got a promise last year at 32 by the magic to get drafted by them, leading him to leave Michigan.

The NBA announced Thursday that 283 players have declared for the NBA draft; 247 players are from colleges, and 36 players are international.-

Lookslike the odds of getting a guaranteed contract may be less than 10%
With the NIL money one would think there would be more player returning to college than might otherwise be the case.
Thoughts?

every situation is independent, there are myriad factors involved and NIL harvesting is all over the map, but that's a fairly safe bet

I'm very surprised about Dra. This is getting maddening. All these players (and their agents) know how to hold everything in check. Would LOVE to finally hear some recruiting results.
I think they are starting to rank on defensive play also now....

4 years, $8M, $4M guaranteed for anyone wondering.
Correct, but that does not change the fact that only first rounders get guaranteed no matter what. Nobody is doubting that there are some guarantees in the second round, but it seems to be more of an exception to the rule.

Two types of guarantees

First, a guarantee to be drafted. Pretty unusual because you don't want to lose the chance to get a good player who drops unexpectedly.

Second is the contract guarantee that isn't unusual once you get selected in the second round.

The NBA rule states that the first round is guaranteed. That is the point I am trying to convey. Sure, second rounders get guarantees, but not mandated guarantees.

Only that matters right now I guess is what TSJ is getting offered.

Wait... what? Recruiting services never took into account defensive ability and just started to do this? I feel stupid. Can you point me to some resources that explains the ranking process?

No, that is the part that isn’t true (being an exception to the rule). 90%+ of second rounders picks 31-40 get guaranteed money. Not an exception to the rule, it is the expectation if you’re an early second rounder. If TSJ is an early second rounder he’ll leave. If he’s not guaranteed by a team to be an early second rounder he’ll stay
