Nojus is Transferring down 79th street to St Lawrence. The mass exodus continues at St Rita.247Sports ranks Illini commit Morez Johnson as top player in state for 2024 class
Illini commit Morez Johnson rises in 247Sports' updated rankings, putting him as the top player in the state for 2024.247sports.com
Morez up to #44 overall and #1 in IL. JB still listed in IL, but down to #88 overall and #3 in state behind Nojus.
sleep deprived and .... what is the other state? LOLActually, there isn't much difference between the two states.
Mulcahey isn't even in the same stratosphere as Hunter for me in terms of rooting against.I feel the same about Mulcahy as I did Hunter - cheering for him would feel like selling my basketball soul.
But as golf taught us this week, it doesn't pay to stick to your principles. When you get a chance to take the bag, you take the bag. Mulcahy is a bag and I would take him.
It seems like decisions are being made to try to win games this year and not have a down year in the name of 'program building', which would probably be the end for Underwood.this is where I'm at.
Realistically we are going to need 6-9 new players next year, my guess is on the higher side. We are going to have no continuity. This year we have Shannon and Hawkins to be team leaders. Next year, no clue who it will be. We'll have 3 or 4 new starters, new go to guy, new PG, all unfamiliar with the system or their teammates.
It feels like short term decisions are being made at the expense of long term program/roster building. I don't think that's sustainable.
Inevitably there will be Transfers, and trying to build a roster on Transfers every year seems doomed to just go completely busto at some point. We're already seeing diminishing returns in the quality of transfers we can pull from this year compared to last.
The fact that I'm not even hearing Illinois being mentioned for any outstanding 2024 recruits is pretty concerning. Feels like Underwood is getting a bit desperate.
Perhaps this is correct.That's a cross-your-fingers-and-hope-they-don't-leave game.
You have any idea "what" is going on at 77th and Western? I know Coach Russell left, and now their very talented Jr. guard is transferring to Simeon. Unreal.Nojus is Transferring down 79th street to St Lawrence. The mass exodus continues at St Rita.
I know the board has moved onto Mulcahy, but are we not even reaching out here?

Yeah I mean, right now pretty much every team is losing kids every year.Perhaps this is correct.
At the same time, there are businesses that are known for good employee retention and others that aren't. It's not luck. It's picking the right people and treating them right.
I think the sample size for every team in the country is too small to draw conclusions yet. But at some point it will become clear. And I suspect that we'll see some correlation in results.
Our roster is constructed almost perfectly for next year with a veteran pg like Mulcahy. You don’t risk risk next year’s success with an unproven freshman pg. The only exception would be a for sure one and done but what’s really the difference at that point.Maybe not. We know Coleman's stipulation on returning had a lot to do with whether or not we were going to bring in experienced guards vs freshman guards.

I like to hangout with realists anyways! I don’t want some orange and blue kool aid 24/7View attachment 26374
Let me know if we are ever at the same party so I can stand on the other side of the room.
As a resident of Rockford, I resemble that remark!I’m a Rockford guy too and I actually agree with you. Didn’t know any other Rockford people were smart
Let’s be honest, we’re not exactly in a position to be selective on PG, there’s certainly not a lot of names left out there and there’s still a chance we don’t add anyone elseMaybe not. We know Coleman's stipulation on returning had a lot to do with whether or not we were going to bring in experienced guards vs freshman guards.
They ARE two of the states that recognize that when someone there gets divorced, they are still legally brother and sister . . . .Actually, there isn't much difference between the two states.

Was traditional HS recruiting declared dead last month or was I dreaming ?Inevitably there will be Transfers, and trying to build a roster on Transfers every year seems doomed to just go completely busto at some point. It seems like a lot of folks around here will be calling for Underwood's head if we had a "down year". The consensus seems to be that he needs to build a sustainable pipeline of freshmen, and also win right now.It seems like decisions are being made to try to win games this year and not have a down year in the name of 'program building', which would probably be the end for Underwood.
I don't know how you do 'long term program building' in the portal era though. Doesn't matter how much you play a guy, he still has the same choice to leave. Underwood's had 4 different kids start at least 10 games as true freshmen who still left after that season, and a couple more regular starters who left after their sophomore years. And he isn't alone in that, there are like 2-3 transfers per D1 program every offseason now.
I get how longtime college basketball fans would rather get a bunch of freshmen and coach 'em up, but that's just not feasible anymore. That's a cross-your-fingers-and-hope-they-don't-leave game.
