Reeves has meeting with Cal today … Cal getting Joey Hart and Jordan Burks as well … Just needs bodies … Hart can really really shoot … But that’s about it … Burks has NBA measurables …

Top 3 for Johnson as it sits right now … Will be a battle …
Johnson is referred to as a combo guard. Would you say he's closer to a 1 or to a 2? Eg. I would put Jayden Epps at 1.9. If Johnson is > 1.5 I'm not sure he makes sense (though might be irrelevant as it doesn't seem we're the favorite).

FWIW, I like "scoring PGs," as long as they are willing/skilled facilitators.

I wasn't referring to the many considered, thoughtful posts expressing concern about the program's challenges last season and the challenges the staff has had in navigating portal talent. Anyone on here for any amount of time notes that a nontrivial number of posters blow matters well out of proportion on a consistent basis. Some are regulars at the bar. Others flit in and out with an I-told-you-so/The-sky-is-falling predictability that mimics the motions of hummingbirds.

And perhaps I've been looking at a different site these past several years but lots of posters were calling for BU's head consistently in March (not to mention during off-the-hook game threads) in complete disregard for his accomplishments in fairly quickly extinguishing this dumpster fire of a program he inherited from JG and building something impressive. The rabbit hole that Sean Miller-to-Illinois-NOW!!! swiftly became is an example. (Not saying I'm not a fan of Sean Miller.)

Some are prone to catastrophizing: they're the ones to whom I refer. Many, like you and me, aren't. It's not binary. It's a distribution with, IMO, a fat negative tail. Many of us are fans of BU while recognizing his blind spots. Some turn small negative impulses into high-amplitude jeremiads. As is often the case elsewhere (just look around at the culture presently), the loudest and most strident, even if a bats&*t crazy minority, have an outsize negative effect on the vibe here.
Catastrophizing (spell check doesn’t recognize it) & jeremiads in the same paragraph of your post. Pretty impressive.

@Indy Illini Fan how do you feel about his fit? Would he be a combo guard or mostly SG?

For what it's worth, Southern Miss were the regular season conference champions in the Sun Belt after going 1-17 in CUSA the prior season. So they had quite the turnaround. Looks like they'll be remaking their roster through the Transfer Portal this year (like they did last year), but hopefully a good opportunity the next couple years for Curbelo to end college on a high point (he'll likely need to get a waiver due to coaching change to be eligible next season).

Did Curbelo really fundamentally change as a person after his concussion or did he just kinda trick a lot of us during his freshman year? He seems like a solid teammate from afar his first yeah here.

No, at this point, the concussion is just a weak excuse. He made a lot of mistakes as a Freshman and displayed some hot headedness largely masked by playing with confidence (and often against bench players) that we hoped he'd mature out of.

Reeves is really good—if he becomes available, have to be excited at the prospect of getting him despite the lack of a guarantee at PG on the roster. High-level shooting plays.

As for Johnson… meh.

Perhaps the insiders are just being very quiet, but the vibe seems very strong that there is nothing out there PG-wise. And that’s pretty depressing given the unfortunately substantial likelihood Williams is either a fraction of his former self next season or outright ineligible to play. Going all in and losing out on Dennis… yikes.

Genuinely wish I could drink the same kool-aid as the rest of you, but the hyping up of Williams (given the question marks) and the comparisons to UConn are less than convincing. As one who’s usually drunk on said kool-aid, being surrounded by what seems like unearned optimism is a weird feeling.

Is Zyon Pullin from UC Riverside an option? What about Taran Armstrong from California Baptist?

I don't think many have hyped Williams. The jist of most of what's posted is that if he's healthy, he can be a capable PG. But certainly not a star.

+1 for using "jeremiad".
